DB, question for you: what were your thoughts on putting Vando on Ja versus Schroder? The guys on the LFR pod (especially GT & Darius) as well as T1m_nba said that Vando had a hard time navigating screens. Whereas, I guess because Schroder has the best lock & trail technique on the team, he was actually our best player for defending Ja (and we leaned on that in the 2nd half)?

I didn't catch the game so I didn't pick up on any of this.

AR was tentative in his first playoff game. Game 2 HBK shook the playoffs jitters and came to play like the AR we all know and love. I'd mentioned in another game thread earlier that AR was becoming a closer. Well, he proofed it tonight. Jeanie, don't lowball Reaves. Teams are going to be coming after him in the off-season.

I think success was largely due to AD for both of them. He was meeting Ja early and playing long. I'd make sure my AD sub patterns were more aligned with Ja vs. JJJ even though JJJ had good numbers.

I'd like to see Vando go under screens more on that match up (especially now if Ja tweaked his shooting hand). See if he can beat you from outside more. Vando's length there could be a little more disruptive. I was worried that Vando would have issues with the screens, but after seeing in in action, it was reasonable enough for me. We are able to find good use for him and keep some size on the floor.

I really liked that there was no place for Ja to hide on D. Even with Vando, he was crashing glass. So Ja had to work.

I'll try to get a rewatch in and focus on this and how we can better defend JJJ (I think we had some post up miscommunication).

Good Analysis

Lakers have to NOT play down to their anticipated declined level of play of the Grizzs because they have a good record playing without Ja and they have an excellent backup PG that many in the NBA considers the best

**IF** Ja plays in Game 2 and Vando goes underneath the screens, will that give Ja more space/angles to pass since shooting would be a challenge.

If Vando is defending topside, this will force Ja middle where we can crowd his space.

Hope that DLo will get more comfortable and get into his groove

Will Bambo, Gabriel and Tristian Thompson get some "burn" in preparation of dominant front courts

Side Note: LakerNation says that Vando's advance metrics are not good.

I don't think there are any passing angles if he's going under on Ja. No one else is moving off their man. There's no distortion of the defense. You are giving up the three to a man with an injured hand.

Sounds like Ja won't play. If that's the case, you probably throttle back Vando. I wonder if we now mirror AD's minutes with JJJ to end that problem with the second unit getting scorched. If not, we need to change up some matchups there. But next man up on their ends, means next man up for AD to lock down.

Agree with your position that one would be giving up 3s to a shooter. If his teammates are moving, Ja might feel that passing to another player (as oppose to taking 3pt shots) will be easier. Of course, it doesn't look like he is going to play the next game that would make this conversation moot for the next game with more relevance on how Ja can play in the remaining games.

Maybe Ham will have Ham will have Vando, AD and Gabriel play JJJ to give him multiple looks/schemes that can apply consistent and constant pressure on him to play on both sides of th ball

Do appreciate your thoughts
