I remember The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Their comical satire was the reason CBS didn't renew the show. CBS regularly prescreened, and censored parts of the Smothers Brothers show. Known for its anti-establishment and pro-drug culture humor, the show lampooned American values, the military, the police, the religious right, and the government.

Back in the '60s, when the Smothers Brothers were popular comedic acts, they did not get along with Bill Cosby and that was especially true when it came to their political ideologies. It all escalated back in the late-'70s when Cosby had enough and struck Tom Smothers at the Playboy Mansion.

Dick Smothers is still alive. Age 85

RIP

I guess God didn't love him best either.

What a talent.

Tom was the Costello of the pair. IMO he made the act work.

I was a little kid in the late 60s and didn't "get" a lot of their humor, but rewatched on YouTube and other venues and I'm like "how did these guys not get canceled immediately?" They really pushed the envelope and took major risks.

Watching The Smothers Brothers and Laugh In were great memories of my childhood.

Definitely ahead of their time with their biting wit. A perfect duo made even more so by Tommy's impeccable timing and demeanor.

RIP to one of the great comedians of his era.
