Ok. Sorry. Black Sheep is just egging people on to be a dick.
Kobe meant a lot to me. Was devastated when he passed. I got angry. I will chill. I saw him play as a rookie, I saw him in the playoffs, I was at the game 4 against Phoenix in 2006. Went to his last game, his jersey retirement game with my family.

Just worked up today. Sad day and happy day. It's weird.

I don't try to egg people on. I speak my opinion and what I know. That's that. I've been a Laker and Kobe fan since I met him in person when I was younger. Amazing player and the best I've ever witnessed. Absolutely an assassin who killed.

TIL that some random fan who met Kobe once when he was younger knows more about him than Kobe's actual wife. Cool.

This lil side beef had actually cooled down. Please let the embers die and keep this thread high vibes.

the preferred pose is ok for no.8 era, but this is a poorly executed artistic work by sculptor.

Not a huge fan of the statue, but definitely a great moment. I'm fine with the pose, as 81 is simply iconic. But the statue itself... The jersey looks extremely dingy and dirty. This statue looks as if it was dragged out of a dirty alley for some reason.

When Kobe scored 81 points in that iconic pose.

He wore the #8 and leaving the court he put up the Number 1...

Place them next to each other you get 8-1. Brilliant.

Touching speeches. Not a huge fan of the statue, but what do I know. Tough (bleep)!

Full ceremony for those who missed it (me including):

The pose was an epic moment in basketball history, but the statue itself seems off. It seems like the statue is telling people to look at the sky, while the gesture Kobe made at the time was acknowledging the performance and the fans after checking out of the game. I'm not sure the best people worked on it, because they would understand the nuances and intricacies of that situation and pose. And antagonizing fans who are critical of it isn't the solution, and it makes Vanessa come off of as bitter.

Kobe deserves a better crafted statue than that. Classic cheap Jeanie probably found the cheapest artist to make it or a family friend. Probably a Rambis. Smfh

They used the same husband/wife duo that made the Jordan statue, the Shaq statue, the Jerry West statue, the Chick Hearn statue, the Dirk statue amongst dozens others

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of you using this as another way to bash Jeanie because you're unhappy with the team...

This just solidifies the fact that the Kings and Lakers will probably be at this site for a very long time. Its going to take a lot of effort to move all those statues if they ever build an arena at a new location.

Clutchpoints.com are jerks, publishing at article on their website saying Vanessa is "cashing in on her viral moment" because Nike made her A "Tough Sxxx" hoodie based on her comment at the statue ceremony. Then to make it worse they included a doctored picture of her that makes her look like a ghoul. Really disrespectful.

Aren’t they AEG’s property?

Pretty sure the respective teams paid for them.

It wouldn't take more effort than to build a new arena
We are talking billionaire problems. Lol

The Lakers don't need a new Arena. They just need to rename it back to the STAPLES Center or name it after the Mamba, or the Lakers name.

Will you be paying for that? Because Crypto is paying.

And doesn't AEG get that money? Lakers would have to pay for naming rights. Lol

Dolan used to own the Forum but Ballmer bought him out. AEG owns Crypto and I believe they still own the Kings.

Classy ceremony and a very fitting gesture from the Lakers org to Kobe and his family. Two statues to commemorate two HoF careers with #8 and #24. Another statue to remember Kobe the consummate Family Man and Girl Dad. Well Done Lakers, Thank You Kobe 💜💛
