PostPosted: Wed Oct 04, 2006 7:35 am    Post subject: Favorite video game?

This topic came out earlier in another thread, but I wanted to dedicate a new thread to it. And yes, I am revealing my geekiness, and I don't care.

What is your all-time favorite video game across any platform, or for each platform?

I have a few I really like:

Final Fantasy VII for the PS1 is probably still my favorite, though the graphics by today's standards are abysmal.

Super Tecmo Bowl for the NES, still the best football game, maybe sports game, I have played. Yes, the Madden games are more realistic, have better graphics, and can do a lot more, but I love the simplicity of the old system.

There are a ton of others, but I will keep it simple for now.

Super Tecmo Bowl, no doubt about it.

There's nothing like running for a 100 yard touchdown with Bo Jackson.

Yeah, Super Tecmo Bowl was something else wasn't it? Raiders and Bo Jackson on that team were unstoppable.

Mike Tysons Punch Out -great game, I had forgotten about it. Which reminds me, there used to be a poster here at LG named SodaPopinski. Where has he/she been?
Pro Wrestling - Also a great game, though I was never able to beat it. My favorite was the guy who would chomp on the other guy's head.
River City Ransom
Bionic Commando
Castlevania SOTN
Zelda - Which Zelda, or are you referring to all of them? I'd say the second Zelda for NES was rather disappointing, though I did like the ending.
Super Dodgeball
Super Mario 3
Final Fantasy III CLASSIC!!!!! - Also a favorite for the various different stories in it. I wish they would completely remake it for PS2 or PS3, and just fleshing out the story and graphics.
Metroid - Justine Bailey
Gran Turismo series
Daytona 1 and 2
Time Crisis 3

dude i could go on forever.....sports, girls, games, cars and toys....tis life!

Was Mario 2 the one that was a dream at the end? The one where he "fought" a giant toad or something, not Bowser?

And 3 was the one where he could get a raccoon tail and fly? Damn, I need to get my SNES out and play it again.

halo and half life, are these shooter games in the genre of Doom, or Castle Wolfenstein?

I never got into those. Never actually played any of those except Castle Wolfenstein. The closest I get to shooter games is the Resident Evil series.

I am surprised no one has said Leisure Suit Larry, or is it because when it comes to gaming, people don't like kidding? It's not a joke, is it?

half life 2 re-invents the genre. even if you don't like those games i think you'd like this one. it's completely interactive..you can interact with every item in the game...plus the levels are genuinely scary and the weapons are amazing....so is the storyline.

I dunno if anyone's into RPG's, but to take it old school...

The Ultima series that started with Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness back in 1981 on your Apple II. Absolutely classic, though I liked Ultima V the best.

And don't forget Pitfall! released in 1982 on the Atari.

Yeah me an my brother would feed quarters to the altered beast machine every week at the laundry mat. I never really played Street fighter at the arcades just on the snes.

As for arcade games that I remember playing.

Mortal Kombat 2 and 3.
Simpsons arcade(loved this one)
I remember a Superman game I loved don't know the exact name.
Bubble Bobble.

Final Fantasy III aka Final Fantasy VI. I can't wait for the remake to come out on the GBA. I'm definitely going to get it.

Another one of my favorites was Chrono Trigger. That one was a lot of fun too.

I spent my allowance on 2 things when I was young: baseball cards, and the Donkey Kong machine at the Alpha Beta on Redhill Avenue between Walnut and Sycamore in Tustin. Later when I got a bit older, my friends and I spent tons of time at Taylor's - a 24 hour restaurant on the corner of Redhill and El Camino Real near Tustin High School. They had a pretty cool arcade. The games I remember putting the most money in were Double Dragon and Armwrestling (The one where you could actually pull the joystick and take off Bald Bull's mask.)

The 2 best games EVER for a home system would have to be the original Super Mario Brothers and the original Legend of Zelda for NES. There were some MEAN games on Colecovision as well. I had that system and I didn't know anybody else who did. I don't know why it never really caught on. It was awesome.
