This one is WORTH the price of admission, folks.
Exciting action, without blatant wire-work and ridiculous CGI.
Gripping, well-choreographed fight scenes.
No invisible cars -- instead, a bad-<bleep> looking Aston Martin that had men and women in the midnight screening last night going "Oooooh..."
NO STUPID, GROAN-WORTHY PUNS. Sharp dialogue.
Great female lead in Eva Green, with both vulnerability and intelligence.
And, best of all, a rugged, ruthless, yet still-human Daniel Craig as Bond, not a cartoon-character or caricature of a spy. As one critic put it, he looks like a Navy-SEAL in a suit -- someone who could and would kick your tail in with ease.
This is the Bond of the books -- and of a 21st-century world.

Better than Borat?
I can't believe that this movie got an A-!
Is it really that good?
Usually action movies get about C to a B. |

Let me put it to you this way:
Daniel Craig plays a Bond who looks like he actually COULD beat your <bleep> in.
There is actual ACTING in this movie. When's the last time any action adventure movie had that, let alone a Bond movie?
There are NO groan-worthy moments in here. I've seen every Bond film 3-4x over, and even I groan at a lot of the last 20 years worth of films or so.
No Christmas Jones-style jokes. Well, OK, one, but it's done well.
No stupid screaming sidekick girls.
No gadgets that make absolutely no freaking sense for existing -- well, unless you count having an emergency defibrilator and first aid kit in your car, but come on... that's actually a SMART idea.
The Batman Begins comparisons are appropriate, though. The adventure is fantastic, but it has a foot still on the ground of reality. This Bond bleeds, and beats people up, but actually thinks ahead and thinks ABOUT what he does.
See the film. If you can't enjoy the opening action sequence after the main titles -- a sequence that owes more to Jackie Chan and Bourne Identity-style action than traditional bond movies -- then, OK, it may not be your thing.
But for a Bond movie that doesn't defy the laws of physics, human physiology, or common sense -- it pushes them, maybe, but doesn't break through them -- this one WORKS.
This is a Bond for grown-ups, or at least intelligent high school students.

I was just about to say Batman Begins was the last recent film in theatres I saw with good acting (plenty from other good acting action films from Asia though). |

Ha...! I hope you're kidding when you're saying you don't recognize that girl in my avatar. And I don't think it'll work out with me and you, I'm not planning to swordfight. |

I LOVED Batman Begins, and the comparison definitely works.
It's not a documentary by any stretch, but it certainly is more plausible and realistic than the last few Bond movies. The characters are human, not superhuman, and when they get hurt, they have to recover -- physically and emotionally.
See this one with a crowd -- hearing young and old watchers laugh and ooh and aah at the different jokes and visual cues is great fun.
While the script and tone for this is certainly different than the Brosnans, figure this: this Bond looks like he'd fight dirty.
And win.

^^^Nah, just a bit of a movie geek.
That, and I went to see it at 12:01 last night, and I'm horribly sleep-deprived and punchy right now.

Nevermind hi, thanks for the recommendation. I was thinking about not going due to the shoddy way Brosnan was apparently treated, and the lousy way things went the last time they tried to make Bond more "serious" (Timothy Dalton).
I must be wierd, but the cheesy lines were always part of the fun (along with the opening credits!!). They were in reality the entire reason that "Austin Powers" worked so well. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. The movie is witty, not wanna-be funny. There's also good male-female sparks/ dialogue chemsitry between Craig and Green. Really good stuff.
Try this, a line that's popped up in tons of reviews, so only a minor spoiler:
Bond: Give me a vodka martini.
Bartender: Shaken or stirred, sir?
Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?

I'm a bond freak and that was the best bond of the series. BAR NONE. It is a fitting beginning to the James Bond legacy and a tribute to Ian Fleming's novel. WOW. |

I just got back from the theater. Here's my take:
Best Bond Movie ever; and quite possibly, the best action movie I have seen. The story was fantastic, the characters were real, and Daniel Craig has now become my favorite actor.
A freaking +
I want to see it again, and will happily fork over the $10 for my viewing pleasure.
Like MIM...I can't stop thinking about how good this movie is...Definitely see it. |

great movie, I'm not sure how it'll be recieved especially since Timothy Dalton didn't get high praise. But the new bad ass Bond is definitely better. just won me over...bad ass definitely bad ass. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. And for those that STILL aren't convinced (yes, I'm a ridiculous shill for this movie), just imagine this...
Bond and a bad guy standing 12 feet apart on a crane about 100 feet in the air.
Bad guy tries to shoot Bond, but the gun is empty.
Bad guy throws it at Bond.
Bond catches it in one hand.
Bond throws the gun right back and hits the bad guy in the face.

just do it. I was doubtful at first, but its a perfect casting IMO....he shows a lot of emotions, what I would expect out of an early James Bond. |
