was yours 91 a turbo??? some of those bad boys used to sell in the 5 digits. and that was when the car was 10+ years old alredy

hard to find a 93+ in stock form.... especially if your shopping for a turbo... unless you know mr2 motors

I know my MR2s. I'm not a big fan of Turbos.

Ideally, if I had all the tools and knowledge, I'd be swapping an ES300 v6 into the Mr2.

I just want the style, the handles, the balance, and 4 disc brakes. That's it.

Counterweight Knob?

I'm assuming the short shifter makes it that much easier in rush hour.

I don't know. I hate driving stick in traffic. Kills the drive entirely.

hmmm im assuming the fourth gen ES300?

so that would be the 3MZ-FEe engine? 225HP with 240 tourque poundage?

if i may ask...how the hell can you squeeze a v6 into the back of that thing... im assuming your trunk (hood) will have to go...

however.. the 1 and 2 FZ are smaller than the 3 FZ

and if you really want to go old school they aways have the 2, 3 and the 4 VZ motor from the old school ES... the 3 being the best of course

1FZ or 3FZ both fit.

The trunk doesn't have to go. It's actually smaller.

Take into consideration 8-10 years of technology separation. Alternators, organization of the engine, etc. Everything got more compact. I think in some cases, the v6 is lighter than the 4cyl Turbo unit by 90lbs.

Unfortunately, it's bolted on by 2 of the 3 mounts. 1 engine mount and 1 transmission mount. I don't think the 3rd custom mount is necessary.

So, you get the v6, you keep the lexus auto tranny, and what do you get? 200 natural aspirated horsepower and 30mpg with 800lbs. less weight and better aerodynamics compared to a lexus. In some cases, you can get better gas mileage just because the overdrive is so low.

Practically speaking, that's almost a dream car for me.

^Eh, not now. Soon. Want to finish another round of college and get my education out of the way.

Thing is, if I get a '93 Auto, I wouldn't change a thing. If I want the project, I should opt for a '93 stick, which is hard to find, twice as expensive... then hit the salvage yards looking for Camrys, Avalons, and ES300s... buy out the motor/engine... do a lot of wiring and ECU map work...

Don't know if it's really worth it. The total project, if I did all the work would be less than $15k, which would be a steal... think NSX Jr...

But it's going to take a HUGE amount of time, a flexible budget, plenty of tools, and garage space.

I'd be better off just getting an Mr2 Turbo swapped in with LSD, flywheel, clutch, etc. at MR2warehouse in PA. I love the BEAMS motor, but it's too expensive and maintenance costs are through the roof.

Engines: Compatiblity / Grocery List
1997+: 1MZ-FE
Best choice for swap.

1992-1996: 1MZ-FE
Compatible, but not recommended.
Early 90's 3vz is proven to work also*

Source Cars:
Avalon
Solara
Lexus ES300
Camry

What to Buy / Get with Engine:
"remember to get a 97+ manual motor w/ ecu or you will have drama"

-- Engine Long Block -dugh
-- Transmission (97+ recommended, not required for Turbo owners)
-- AC Compressor
--Alternator*
-- AC Lines to compressor (cut)
-- Alternator
-- Engine Mounts
-- Intake Tube w/ top of Airbox (ensure sensors are there)
-- ECU
-- ECU Harness (uncut)
-- Dash Plugs that go to ECU
-- Tachometer from 97+ 1MZ-FE Car (only if you started with a NA tach
-- Fuel Rails (94-95 1MZ-FE with return system)*optional
-- 94+ V6 Intermediate Shaft (with 6 bolts on CV joint) *must be modified

Weight / Space Issues: Quick Read
There aren't really any weight issues when using a 1MZ-FE engine, in fact the stock engine is about 30lbs. lighter than a 3S-GTE. So don't worry about upsetting your balance.

Throwing a Supercharger/Turbo system on will add a few more pounds though, but it is definitely not an overbearing monster. (Credits: derek2000GT)

There is also the issue of space, which is another thing not to be worried about. The 1MZ-FE fits easily into the engine bay, and actually increases the space available on the passenger side for whatever performance part you'd like to stuff there.

Like I said, a lot of work. I'm not that good a tech.

Probably better off putting a Celica or Corolla motor in the Mid Engine Rear Drive setup just like the Lotus Elises. 70 less hp. +5-10mpg. Still 1/4th the price of the Lotus.

Of course, if things work out the way I hope they do, I'll just keep the Corolla, the Auto Mr2, and possibly get an Elise.

If I ever get hitched, that Elise will be the downpayment for hopefully, my M5.

I highly recommend that car. Make sure you get the supercharged. Mine isn't unfortunately and it has to be the slowest 0-60 SUV on the market. Looks nice though.

I highly doubt the infiniti will drop a v8 in the G but you can get the M series with a 4.5 v8

2005 Acura TSX with navigation.
Haha.. I had a 2003 Accord EX v6 coupe before that car. That car surprised a lot of people with its power. I gave it to my little brother because he wanted a coupe and I was wanting a sedan.
Obviously, I felt the power difference between the two cars, but compared to other 4 cylinder sedans (excluding wrx and evo8 of course), the car is super powerful... and it's smoooooth.
Still, I wish I had enough to get a TL with navi... but when it comes to luxury value.. TSX is the car to beat.

I'll give you a hint: George C. Scott once starred, in an old movie, where he drove a little sports car, like mine... He was some kind of driver, for gangstas, or something... Forget the name of the movie... Anyway, this little car kind of fits my personality... It's got "character", and a certain flair, and style.... [/i]

I've got a used red 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34. She's got leather interior, power sunroof, a Pioneer deck with a 12" Kicker Solobaric sub and Audiobahn 800W amp.

She's also got a dent in the passenger side (neighbor backed into the car within the 1st 3mths of owning, which she paid me for but I used the $$ on a trip to LA) and now burns 1 litre of oil every 2500km's. Oh, and she's very thirsty at the pumps.

Other than that, the car is great!

oh ya... Acura TSX has to be one of the most pwerful 4 cyl NA sedans... Im not hating on it but I would like Honda to drop in a mean v8 into that bad boy and compete with the higher end small sedans.... these days alot of the small compact 4 door sedans drive like a sports car and I hope Honda can get the message and build a TSX with a bigger engine.

but you do know that alot of the low end family sedans have edged up the HP.... for ex: 4 cyl
Camry, Altimas, all sit in the 180+ HP range.

Nice.

The new Jaguar XK by another poster... I think that one takes the cake for me in this thread.

I'm disappointed. No Ferraris guys?

Honda won't put a V8 in the TSX. Doesn't make sense. Part of their product values is using a 4cyl. Yes, the powerband is high up on the tach, but that doesn't mean it's going to be used all that often either.

ya i know it doesnt make sense.... thats why all these car companies are doing it.... People want sports cars out of their roomy 4 door sedans.. this is what luxury automakers are aiming at with these high powered v8 in these small family cars... the insurance is cheaper and its a steady trend... Acura TSX sits at a boring 200 HP with 198 lb/touque. the design and refinements are nice... but if you had the option of choosing between a Lexus IS350 or the TSX which one would you choose? exactly! hell ill take the 250 over the TSX....I can picture acura squeezing a six in the TSX but not an 8.. the TSX needs a bump in HP and torque BIG TIME

It all depends on the market.

Fuel efficiency basically rules for the market that's $32k and under.

For those who can afford more power.... and the better car... it's assumed they care less about fuel mileage...

Hence the Audi RS4 with 420hp, 335i with 300hp with twin turbos, etc.

Between the IS350 and TSX, I pick the Lexus just because it's RWD. Really, I'd have more fun revving the Vtec motor. I'd even take the IS250.

What's worrysome is how the projected fuel mileage between the IS250 and IS350 doesn't really make that much of a difference.

But hell, if I had 30k to spend... I'd have a '91 Mr2, a '71-'90 Mini Cooper S w/Sportspack, and save the rest of the money.
