I think it may be legit because they can make a ton of money.
For example, an Xbox360 retails for $399.
To bid, you have to pay a bid fee of $9.44 for each bid, and they'll only take a total of 95 bids.
$9.44*95 = $896.80; so even if they pay full retail for the Xbox360, they make money of the bid fees.
They don't tell you what bid number they're on, and I don't think the auction closes until it hits the maximum number of bids. Another thing it says is "highest unduplicated bid wins" and you can't bid above the Get4 price which is why the closing auction prices are so low. I have no clue in what increments they increase it but it's all done so you don't know when the auction is ending or if it's really by highest unduplicated bid, you could win at a bid below the Get4 price. If you really want it, you need to keep bidding.
As a bidder, you have to bid and hope the auction closes. Otherwise, you're out the bid fees. Each bid you make requires to pay the fee. Seems more like a raffle, with luck involved, than a real auction.

It's looks great, as long as you're not worried about:
1. No auction ending date and time (wow)
2. A $10 charge for making each and every bid you make (bigger wow)
Smells like a scam. |

Legit on a legal level, probably. But I think you'd have to be insane to bid, given the lack of transparency within the auction process. |

This "unique highest bid" system is not worth it even this website is legit. Not only do you have to have the highest bid, but it also has to be unique (you bid amount has to be unique). Did some probability analysis, and the chances of being the highest unique bid is pretty damn low.
Here is one example:
Quote: |
box 360
Get4 Price: $12.94
Auction# 3100: Xbox 360
Click to go back
Get4 Price: $12.94
Retail Price: $399.99
Maximum Bid: $12.94
Bid Fee: $9.94
Max. # of Bids: 91
Auction Started: November 18
Auction Closed: November 20
Xbox 360
Bidding Results Breakdown

91 x 9 = $819 is just the amount they made from the fees.
Plus you add the actual bid amount. This sounds more like a business than a charity auction. |

Plus you add the actual bid amount. This sounds more like a business than a charity auction. | Especially when as little as 25% goes to the charity....
Quote: | How can you afford to sell new brand name products for 80-90% off retail prices and still donate so much money to charity?
The Auction 4 Charity is a new and innovative method of conducting auctions on the Internet to raise money for charities. Every participant pays an affordable bidding fee for each bid they place in an auction. By collecting these fees, keeping our administrative costs low and/or by getting product donations from the product manufacturers, we are able to offer these amazing discounts and still donate at least 25% of the auction net proceeds to the selected charities. |
