Teens who play violent video games show increased activity in areas of the brain linked to emotional arousal and decreased responses in regions that govern self-control, a study released on Tuesday found.

Man, these studies are lame. I'd like to shoot anyone who says my playing video games is having an adverse effect on me.

Yeah, these types of studies are generally hogwash. This study doesn't seem to prove much, as much as this article tries to make something out of it.

Quote:
Our study suggests that playing a certain type of violent video game may have different short-term effects on brain function than playing a nonviolent, but exciting, game,"

What is "short term"? Are people a bit more amped up after playing a violent game? Makes sense. How long does that last? Probably varies, but short term to me means a few minutes. What does that mean? Where do they take this? If it's insinuating that this leads to aggressive behavior, I'm not buying it.

And it seems like their main point is that brain activity changes when you play a certain type of game. That certainly makes sense. But what does it mean? What does it translate to?

Quote:
After playing the games, the children completed tasks requiring concentration and processing of emotional stimuli while their brain activity was scanned. Alterations in brain function reflecting changes in blood flow appeared as brightly colored areas on the magnetic resonance images.

So again...what does that mean? Changes in brain activity, but was there any difference in performance? This study shows changes to the body but doesn't answer anything about what that leads to, which is really the whole point. They should save the reporting until they answer that question.[/quote]

i disagree with this entirely.

although the other day i did have sex with a hooker, and then when she got out of my car i ran her over and got my money back. but i belive this incident to be completely unrelated.
