i love the pick up of jason schmidt and the other veterans.

i think they overpaid for pierre but i thought the same thing about furcal last year.

i'd really love to see them get v. wells for penny and a prospect, but i don't want to lose some of the great prospects, like kemp or loney.

what does everyone think about the offseason the dodgers have had so far?

So far I like the moves the Dodgers have made. Schmidt, Pierre, and Gonzalez were good pick ups. Our outfield rotation is quite deep now. I think it was wise that we passed on Drew, Maddux, and Gagne. Even though I'm a huge fan of Gagne you gotta wonder just how bad his injuries are and if he'll ever get back his stride. If he would be willing to take a big pay cut I wouldn't mind retaining him but still something must be seriously wrong w/ him.

The Dodgers have always had a great farm system arguably the best in the MLB. I'd hate to see us lose young talent esp. in Kemp and Loney. If the Dodgers have intentions of moving Penny it doesn't bother me as long as we don't have to give up too much. A straight up trade for a hitter or a couple of decent mid relief pitchers would make this off-season darn near perfect for me.

Their offseason gets a B- from me.

Like the Schmidt signing, but I am not big fans of Gonzo and Pierre.

For a leadoff hitter Pierre's OBP is terrible and of course he has no power and his throwing arm is a joke. Scott Podsednik got a one year 3 million dollar deal and is the same type of player. Why would Pierre deserve 5yrs and 44 million. Doesn't make sense, this signing will start to hurt the dodgers in a couple of years.

Gonzo's OPS has dropped for 3 straight years and he was always played in a hitters park in Arizona, and now he comes to pitchers park in LA. Expect his stats to drop again and like Pierre is throwing arm is terrible. The only thing good about this signing is it was for only one year.

And then they still need a power hitter, so maybe the offseason is not over yet. Hope Penny, Loney and another prospect can bring in somone like Vernon Wells. Pitching looks soild, bullpen looks solid, lineup is ok, but needs some power.

It's not me who wants to trade him... it's all the rumors about him being on the trading block. I like Penny.. he had it rough after the all-star break but when he's on .. he's effin on! I do believe that we did trade a bit much for him but I'd hate to see him go just cuz he had a bad run. I'm not really sure why there's so much talk about him being shopped around. BUT, if it's true I still would prefer a straight up trade instead of the Dodgers throwing in young talent.

Penny has alienated himself from the Dodger organization with his bad attitude. They would love to get rid of him if equal value came back in return.

Wow, let's not go overboard here, Padres fan. This is a pretty good rotation, even with Peavy's un-Peavy like year last year, but let's not call it Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine and Avery just yet.

Also, Maddox is Angelina Jolie's mohawked child. Greg Maddux is a first ballot hall of famer. But don't expect a whole lot of vintage Maddux games there in SD. He's just not the same guy anymore.

I wouldn't mind if they traded Penny if they can get good young talent in return.

I wonder who is left. The Dodgers could still use a little help.

they could still use that one power hitter that is capable of hitting 30-40 hrs.

It looks like they need to get the power from the farm system or the young players from last season.

Did the Dodgers get Gonzalez, or did I dream that up? The best move was letting JD Drew opt out. My Cards finally dumped him, and have played in 2 of the last 3 World Series. Maybe the Dodgers will follow suit.
