Three porducts in one:
1. Widescreen iPod with touch control.
2. The Apple Phone.
3. Internet communications device.
That touch screen looks bad ass:

Wow, that looks so much better than the iPod.
A few questions:
- what cell phone provider will make it a hassle to get one of those? If I buy it outright without going through Verizon or Cingular or Sprint, can I take it and activate it through them?
- Battery life?
- Memory amount?
- I love the touch screen, but I am always afraid of something like that being so delicate it could easily break or get smudged or whatever.
- Price?
Whatever. It looks nice and I am jonesing for one now.
When will it be available? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Quote: | Jobs unwraps the iPhone
'Apple is going to reinvent the phone,' CEO says
By Rex Crum & Stacey Delo, MarketWatch
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Computer Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs on Tuesday unveiled the iPhone, its new touch-screen mobile phone that will be able to play music, surf the Internet and take pictures, among other features.
"Apple is going to reinvent the phone," Jobs said during his keynote speech at Macworld. "After today, nobody is going to look at these [other mobile phones] the same way again." The phone, to be available in June, will use new "multitouch" technology, Jobs added, calling the phone the "ultimate digital device." It will have a 3.5-inch diagonal screen and be 11.6 millimeters thick. Apple's iPod technology is built into the phone.
Among its features, Apple said that the phone will have a 2-megapixel camera, instant text-messaging capacity, sync with iTunes and use a visual voice-mail system, which will allow users to read a list of people who called. Also designed into the phone: Google Inc.'s search engine, Yahoo e-mail and Google Maps.
Cingular Wireless will provide the wireless service for the phone, according to the company. Other Macworld announcements included the Apple TV, which was previously dubbed iTV.
It will feature a 40GB hard drive and be able to store up to 50 hours of video. The device can stream to five personal computers, and will be able to hold movies, television shows, music and photographs. Apple TV will be priced at $299 and begin shipping in February, Jobs said. Jobs also announced that Apple has sold more than 2 billion songs through its iTunes music store, and that it expects to reach 100 million iPod unit sales this year.
ITunes has become the fourth-largest seller of music online, surpassing Amazon.com Inc. , Jobs added. Apple plans to partner with Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures to sell movies on iTunes.
Shares of Apple were last up 8% at $92.42. |

The iPhone: Price - $499 4GB, $599 8GB in June
10:46: Steve's comparing the iPhone to buying an iPod and a smartphone—he says people carry around both.
10:46: 4GB model = $499
10:47: 8GB model = $599
10:47: Shipping in June! Only available on Cingular....
The iPhone: Battery Life
10:49: The Battery life is going to be 5 hours talk-time/video/browsing, 16 hours audio. |

Cingular? What load of crap is that?
Thems a mighty expensive phone. I guess I will wait a bit. I guess I will have to wait a long bit since it is only Cingular for now.

pretty damn impressive phone. | It's pricey.. but when compared to other Smartphones, it's not that bad.
I was hoping it was going to be 'open' (can be used with any provider). Damn, and it's running OS X too!!! Oh well...
Apple TV looks hot... I already have a PVR for my iMac... this completes the package |

It won't make much money if only Cingular users can use it. What a travesty. |

Hmmm, I was looking at the Blackjack, but this looks even sweeter. Any ideas on what the O/S is? Third party apps? Outlook integration? Bluetooth and wireless LAN support? Ok, Ok, I'll do some research. |

I have the blackjack right now and love it. But I'm looking forward to grabbing the iPhone if it does well. |

If you've ever dialed or text messaged on a touchpad you'd cringe at this thing. Lack of 3g (UMTS/HSDPA/EV-DO) is a next gen media killer. Phone is nice looking but no 3g and touchscreen for all entry is a major downer. |

^^^ I was hesitant on a touch screen as well until I got my Cingular 8125 and now I like it.
Agree on the 3g though. |
