The lifespan of plasma's has increased dramatically, and could easily last 10-15 years (I don't think I've ever kept a CRT television longer than that). The one issue you have to consider is burn in. This to has gotten much better, but is still out there. I've noticed it a little on my 42" plasma when the picture is all black, but I don't seem to notice it when there is an image on the screen. Plus, the TV's now have a mode to 'reset' your screen if you experience and significant burn in. One think is for sure, you don't want to hook your XBox up to a plasma.

I haven't been keeping up with the technological improvements in plasma TV, Mongo.

I won't buy a plasma until the manufacturer's warranties improve. To me a long warranty is a signal that the product will last. A one year warranty on a plasma TV doesn't do much to install confidence.

Thats why I bought mine from Costco. They guarantee returns on any of their electronics. Truthfully, I would have preferred an LCD, but I was looking for a 42" TV and the 42" LCD's (at the time) were more than I was willing to pay.

I've had my 42" Plasma for 1.5 years with no complaints, especially with HD programming (I wouldn't buy such a big TV without HD).

Costco is great at taking returns, but warranties are another matter. I don't remember the Costco return policy, but it was probably 60 days or maybe 90 days... no matter, it was quite liberal. But plasma televisions only have one year warranties, exposing you well past the Costco return time horizon.

Costco's policy is that they will let you return anything (except computers) as long as you maintain your membership. So theoretically, you could return the TV after 5 - 10 years of use.

Bought the same model for my fiance's parents. They love it so far. $1999 is about the going rate so far and as you've seen from some of the previous posts, reviews on this model are pretty good all around. So good purchase .

Per Consumer Reports:

Panasonic TH-50PX60U (rated 11 out of 17 for the 50" or larger plasmas - yet still a Consumer Reports best buy due to the price when compared to comparable models)
Quote:
This TV displayed very good picture quality for HD and DVD and good for standard-definition content. The SD Card port on the front panel allows watching digital still images. The remote has extra-large buttons and large print, but lack of backlighting can make it hard to use in low lighting. The on-screen menu is difficult to navigate. The rear jacks' labels are difficult to read.

As for the Vizio VX32L... it was not on the list. The only Vizio they had on the LCD's was the GV42LHDTV and it was at the lower end of the 40" and larger models (not rated too well).

I know someone who brought a 32 inch tv back after 10 years. Costco gave them their money back, which was enough to buy a nice new set (32" TV's were expensive 10 years ago).

I can't bring myself to rip Costco off like that, since it ends up costing all of us, and they are a customer of mine. But their return policy is as good as it gets out there.

It's because of that kind of abuse that Costo is seriously thinking about changing the return policy on TVs down to 90 days.

I better get to Costco then... Not surprised about the abuse... unfortunately
