Hey guys,

Take this however you want, but Yi JianLian was at the game on Sunday. He came in from the Lakers hallway. He was talking to the Magic Man, Jack Haley, AC Green, and a couple of others who look connected with the Lakers. He came in around the third quarter. Maybe we're doing some early recruiting?

He will go 3rd to 4th.....So is there a deal in place? ....Round and round we go.....

Oh thats right, the Suns are drafting at the #4 slot, Yi JianLian or Horford... He probably got lost on the way to the Suns locker room while at Staples....

He's a Chinese player with huge potential. Very athletic and long.

Hopefully he'll be a poor-man's Biedrins. He really can't palm the ball and at that size it's a huge disadvantage if you are a fineness slasher.

Not a good comparison. He is a completely different player, with a completely different skill set.

While I'm sure the Lakers will work him out and take a look, I doubt that there is much chance of the Lakers trading up to take him. If the Lakers were to trade up, there are quite a few players that would help the team more than him.

Thanks for the link.

He looks like he's pretty mobile and agile, but I'm not certain about how well he can do in the NBA. I think he can become a decent player.

I'm sure everyone can look versatile in a gym or against high school level comp, but against pro level competition, at best he's been a poor man's Biedrins.

The Lakers aren't trading up this year. There's a much greater chance they will be trading out. In fact, it seems almost inevitable in that they want to get more veteran help and don't want to part with Bynum. The most likely assets to move that makes Phil/Mitch and Jim Buss somewhat happy will be picks.

(I'd also be skeptical of where the early mocks place foreign players who haven't battled in a higher level league. Wait till the workouts with teams start to get around. Then we'll get a better feel for where GMs place him.)

That clip didn't show if he can move without the ball. He definetly doesn't jump that high and he will be at a disadvantage in strength at the NBA level.

I'm with DB, the jury is out on the guy. I wouldn't rank him Top 10... too many questions about his strength, skill and age. If he slipped to us, I'm sure we'd take him due to the marketability issues alone.

We're not getting him. He's a high lottery pick. He's actually pretty good, he has a good handle, he's 7ft, his hops were not really shown in that clip, he's got a nice wingspan and he shoots smooth out to about 20 ft. He's skinny but he doesn't back down from contact like Yao did early in his career. He'll probably end up as a poor man's Durant.

However, even being Chinese, outside of Durant, I'd rather have Horford on this team if we were to trade up. Horford is going to be the next coming of Carlos Bruiser in the post and he already plays with intensity on D (There are two Os in Boozer and no D).

Do people have nothing better to say than "I'm not sure on his strength"

Like no dur that's kind obvious, tons of players have came in without "nba ready" bodies.

Anyways I think his success will greatly depend on what team takes him. I think for alot of foreign players, the perfect environment and system during their early career are extremely important, more so for alot of college kids

If the Suns take him, he'll be a strong player. If not, then it's really a toss up

Mentioning strength is extremely important, especially since Yi's:

a) Built like a twig,
b) Faces smaller or weaker players overseas,
c) Reportedly has trouble against stronger opponents.
d. Quite possibly older than his listed age.

Do you wish to share your secret scouting methods for assessing NBA PF prospects? If not, then questioning Yi's strength is pretty damn important, don't you think?
