Suggested as a possibility for the supposed blockbuster. The question: Would you do this trade if you were Kupcake? |

Would I do it?
I'd do in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd even include Miami's pick, Cook, Slava, whatever they want to get it done..
That would be a fantastic trade.
However, Pacers will not trade Artest and the others. Count on it.
They know they're good and they"ll try to win it all. They won't break up the core. _________________ Someday you will be loved |

According tp Emplay he's been told that the Lakers asked for Artest and the Pacers wanted Odom. The Lakers said no. Things could change now that Artest is cleared and they may add Bender to the equation.
Also, Sacto wanted to deal Peja before they did Webber and offered Bjax and Peja for Odom. Lakers said no to that too (this was reported nationally)
Believe it or not, Lakers really value Odom. Else they wouldn't make him the center piece in the Shaq trade. |

That pretty much says it all... although I'd be a lil worried about Kobe & a firecracker like Artest. |

Wow. If we did that, this team would be very, and I mean very, good. Kobe and Artest would be the best perimeter defensive duo since Kobe and Pippen. Artest is a tough, beastly defensive player, and a good offensive player also. When Bynum developes. this would be a championship calibre team with Kobe, Artest, Bynum, and Kwame. And with that, we wouldn't need the 07 pipe anymore. If there is anyway to get artest, we should pull the friggin trigger asap. He is FAR FAR better than Odom. It's note remotely close. |

I don't think I would even if I wasn't Mitch...
Artest in 6 year career:
PPG: 14.4
RPG: 4.7
APG: 3.0
Odom in 6 year career:
PPG: 16.0
RPG: 8.3
APG: 4.3
I know, I know Artest brings tuff, entensive defense, but offensively Odom definitely has the edge, no question. Admittedly on the defensive end Artest is at least twice as good if not more than twice as good and is certainly twice as good statistically by getting over twice as many steals and blocks as Odom.
But the fact remains, Odom has been playing against PF's a lot of his career which could definitely impact those defensive stats. He would not be getting the blocks against much taller opponents and playing the inside more often at PF the steals would be down as well.
Fact is Odom has been pushed around a lot defensively at the PF position, I'd kind of like to see what he can do playing SF exclusively, as far as his defensive effort is concerned. Also Odom's impact as the Point forward in the Triangle is big time factor to consider, keeping in mind his superior ball handling skills for his size.
I will admit including Bender in the trade scenario does make it very interesting, however.
Admittedly including Bender very well could be the key to the trade and does make it more palatable. _________________ Rule = win titles

^ Now that would be a line up...
I was replying to a post showing a lineup of:
Kobe
Bibby
Artest
Amare
Brown/Bynum
Considering the acquisition of Artest and money saved in regards to 07 plans.
I have no idea where that post went, however. _________________ Rule = win titles

Artest started developing a better offensive game later in his career. 18.3 ppg in his most recent full season. 25 ppg in his short season last year. With that said, offense is not his game, although his offense is about equal with Odom's. Defensively, he's probably the best defensive player in the NBA. If we could get this trade done...whew. |

That's probably what could change a No to a Yes in talks with Phillip.
Atleast if you ask me. Artest+Bender (Combined with Kwame, Bynum and Mihm) in the longrun is far deeper and stronger. |

^ I would have to agree, including Bender certainly makes the trade intrigueing. I wouldn't make the trade without Bender, but with Bender in the mix that certainly could be the key to such a trade.
As much as I don't like giving up Odom considering how much he could impact the Triangle at "point" forward, I suppose I would half to consider this trade after all.
Another good point by yesman considering that Artest's offense is vastly improved the last couple of years. We would still be giving up rebounding, but otherwise it appears we lose very little else and gain a lot of potential in Bender not to mention Artest's great defense. _________________ Rule = win titles

Odom's rebounding is unlikely to be better than 7 or 8 per from the SF spot. It could be 6.5 even if he's asked to trap on the perimeter or be the main help defender.
We aren't going to have good rebounding regardless unless Kwame steps it up. That's what we traded for - stronger interior play - and if Kwame can't give us that even, well then he shouldn't be in the league, frankly. With his athletic ability, there's no excuse not be a 8+ RPG guy as a starter. |

I'm astonished almost 40% wouldn't trade for Artest.
Sometimes i think Sky is right about people not caring at all about defense.

Lamar Odom
6-10 PF from Rhode Island
15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.7 apg in 36.3 minutes
Vlade Divac
7-1 C from Serbia
2.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.3 apg in 8.7 minutes
Devean George
6-8 SF from Augsburg
7.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 20.4 minutes
Incoming
Ron Artest
6-7 SF from St. Johns
24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes
Austin Croshere
6-10 PF from Providence
8.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.3 apg in 25.0 minutes
Jonathan Bender
7-0 SF from Picayune HS (MS)
5.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 13.3 minutes
Change in team outlook: +13.8 ppg, -2.3 rpg, and -0.9 apg.
Indiana Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Ron Artest
6-7 SF from St. Johns
24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes
Austin Croshere
6-10 PF from Providence
8.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.3 apg in 25.0 minutes
Jonathan Bender
7-0 SF from Picayune HS (MS)
5.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 13.3 minutes
Incoming
Lamar Odom
6-10 PF from Rhode Island
15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.7 apg in 36.3 minutes
Vlade Divac
7-1 C from Serbia
2.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.3 apg in 8.7 minutes
Devean George
6-8 SF from Augsburg
7.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 20.4 minutes
Change in team outlook: -13.8 ppg, +2.3 rpg, and +0.9 apg.
Successful Scenario
Due to L.A. Lakers and Indiana being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. L.A. Lakers and Indiana had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
I would do George and Vlade for Croshere and Bender... But I wouldn't trade Odom cause he could play both SF and PF and he could be a key for us in this upcoming season. |

no brainer, Artest is the best perimeter defender in the league, shouldve won 3 DPOY already...if not for his temper. He is also a good offensive player, and his scoring has gone up the last few years. Odom is one of the most talented players in the NBA, but I'd be more than willing to give him up for someone like Artest. Other than Kobe, there are only a few players I really like, and one of them is Artest. |

That's why i initially thought this trade as a serious possibility. They take Detroit to 6 without Artest and that's the exact same predicament they were in the season before.
They lack playmaking, rebounding and could use more consistent, balanced offense. Odom could fill their need for a combo forward since they have guys like Granger and SJax on the roster who play alot of time at 3. |
