Megatron officially retires. I guess the prospect of getting decapitated by a defender while trying to catch another overthrown Matthew Stafford pass and continuing to play for the Lions was just too much.

Lions will be remembered for being a team that has had great players on their roster but couldn't do anything with it.

Good to see the Illini hiring Lovie as coach.

First Barry, now Megatron. Lions sure do know how to force GOAT-level hall of famers into early retirement.

Sucks for Calvin that he never played with an elite QB. I was hoping for a Moss to the Pats type of trade where Calvin got to go play the final years of his prime with an elite QB.

Could you imagine him in say Green Bay? Would be awesome.

On a separate subject today there have been a few deals, notably Malik Jackson to the Jags, Mario Williams to the Dolphins and Osemele to the Raiders.

The salary cap would have prevented any possible trade, in terms of Calvin to the Patriots. The only path for Megatron to the Pats would have been via an outright release, which he probably could have requested at this point as I don't think Detroit wanted his salary on the books. He would have been a great fit though, as the Patriots are in dire need of an X receiver.

Doubtful Detroit will trade in-division. Of the teams that could've used an elite WR, none can afford him.

Brock Osweiler signs with the Texans. Broncos need a QB now. Wonder if they are calling Peyton to hold off on filing those retirement papers...

They're now saying RG3 will visit Denver, they're also rumoring Kaepernick as a trade target

Osweiller gets 4/72 from Hosuton

In other news:
Forte to the Jets
Damon Harrison to the Giants
Janoris Jenkins to the Giants
Alex Mack to the Falcons
George iloka remains with Bengals
Marvin Jones to Lions
Chargers retain Antonio Gates
Bucs retain Doug Martin
Olivier Vernon has transition tag removed and is now free agent

If Keenan Allen can recover Rivers will have some good targets.

Yeah Benjamin is a great deep threat to stretch the field and give Keenan even more space.

Chargers also bringing back Gates.

Texans also got Lamar Miller.

Houston might be a 10-12 win team next year.

They only had 2 HOF-caliber players... If they get another one and history repeats itself then yeah...

Matt Forte replaces Chris Ivory in NY. Texans better hope Osweiler isn't another AJ Feeley. Meh on Lamar Miller moving as we have a diamond in the rough with Ajayi plus RB's are expendable. Benjamin's a good pickup but he needs to show he's motivated after signing the contract. A sudden jump in production and history of droppsies during his walk year is a red flag. While I'd like to keep Vernon as he's young, I think he'll cost too much and his production is really inflated bc of the attention Cameron Wake gets.

Olivier Vernon gets $85mil/5 years from the Giants. Way too much for a #2 complementary pass rusher and now he makes more than JJ Watt. Bye.

I liked Olivier but can't complain we didn't match that price tag. I do like the Mario signing, but hate the fact that we swapped picks w/ Philly to get Kiko, dumb move. Overall, one step forward, two steps backwards for the Phins.

Although Vernon outplayed the hell out of Mario Williams last season. If Williams is washed up, that's a massive loss of production. (Vernon was either #1 or #2-rated at his position by Pro Football Focus, I believe.)

I liked the Ladarius Green pickup by the Steelers. He just needed a chance to play. He'll get that now.

I suspect the benching had a lot to do with it. Secondarily there were high expectations after the SB win. With the Texans you get a fresh slate on a good defensive team.

3rd but a lot of it comes off of double teams on Wake and Suh plus history usually predicts that a complementary rusher tends to fail when removed from partnering with the star rusher (I usually don't follow UK-based PFF because of several fundamental flaws in their methodology). Dolphins are betting that Williams' drop was due to a a very poor misfit and use by Rex Ryan. He'll be moving back to a 4-3 to play DE instead of OLB and will be paired with a better supporting cast.
