Thanks, turned it off after the first quarter due to exhaustion and blowout.

You missed a good game. Drew & Critt got it going in the fourth and even went ahead right before the end of the game.

Man Critt looks AWESOME out there- wow. He is really really really really really fast- made Fisher look like he was stuck in the mud. On top of his speed, he actually has skills, good body control and a nice shot. He is gonna be huge for us.

Farmar looks a lot bigger than last season, he really bulked up- you can tell he hit the weights. His shot was totally off, like Mo's but it was just the first game. I am not going to give up on him- I think he will work through it, he is a competitor if nothing else.

Drew looks a lot bigger, he is huge around the shoulders and arms now. He started off badly, but in the 3'rd and fourth he found his stride and he was really hustling for the rebounds- getting off his feet to grab a bunch in traffic. Honestly he looked better than Mihm who could not catch a pass or hang on to a board to save his life.

What was the crowd reaction like? Big cheers for anyone? People happy to see Fish in P&G?

Overall this is what I thought about the game:

Drew played better overall than Mihm at center. Both of them don't seem to put themselves in good defensive positions to alter shots, but Drew had better hands and activity on the boards. Drew also looked much more active on offense, it was very noticeable change. He still wasn't getting the ball, but he was moving around a lot.

Cook did not show any improvements in this game. So much for that post game that was hyped up, he shot all jumpers and did not look good at all. His defense reminded me of why I thought he should never play in the NBA last year, it was really really terrible. Ronny looked better than Cook but besides 1 block he didnt really do much.

Vlad Rad looked awesome, I know we can't expect 5-7 from 3 point land every night, but the fact that he's going to get hot at times will help us. We picked him up knowing that he is a streak shooter. Mo Evans did not look good at all either. He still looks great on the floor when the game isn't going on, but his shot is terrible.

I really hope Kobe doesn't play like this during the season. This is the predictable Kobe-ball I was hoping I wouldn't have to see. Kobe's biggest problem has always been that he doesn't let the game come to him. He goes out every night with a preset plan in mind, but isn't flexible to changing that plan. He took 1 shot in the first quarter for 0 points, and scored 17 points in the third quarter. His shot was off for the most part, and he was playing very sloppy for a NBA superstar. It felt like he thought team USA was still out there and he could just throw wild passes for highlight results. Also his bad habits on defense remained. Sasha played suprisingly well. We need to see if his driving was a fluke or not. He could always shoot, but his ability to drive is giving him more confidence so far it seems.

Crittenton was my favorite at the point. He looked even better than I remember him in summer league. For those who didn't see him, it was amazing. He's not just a quick guard like Farmar. He is a lightning fast guard with sick moves. He is by far the best ball handler on the team along with Kobe. It was just a thing of beauty watching him out there. I know it was just Troy Hudson who was guarding him but it looks like the Lakers finally got a point guard that can break his man down off the dribble with ease (since Nick Van Exel). Farmar also looked good, but not as impressive as Critter on both ends. Crits clutch jumper in his first preseason game ever shows why he will be a great player. He also hit Andrew on a backdoor lob which no other point guard seemed to be able to do.

J-Crit is our best rookie since Magic. This guy can flat out ball. I mean he looks like Kobe at 19.

My 2 cents:

Critt made Fish look like he was running in molases. Fish looked old and slow and should not be the started (keep in mind he was Deron's backup in Utah).

This would have been at 15 point loss without Vlad. Was lights out for a long period. Hope he can do that on at least half the nights he plays.

Bynum was excellent rebounding, especially in the second half.

I want to see Mihm in a couple more games before I pass judgement. Not sure if he was rusty or still has problems from the injury / surgery.

Cook = POS.

Farmar and Mo had off nights. Phil (I hope) would not have left them in for that long if it was a regular season game.

I hope Vlad can keep this up, because if he can return to "good" Vlad Rad than the Lakers are a top 5 seed. Trade Brian Cook for Stromile Swift and our rotation is set...

Starters:
PG Derek Fisher
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Lamar Odom
PF Ronny Turiaf
C Andrew Bynum

2nd Unit:
PG Javaris Crittenton
SG Maurice Evans/Sasha Vujacic
SF Luke Walton
PF Vladimir Radmanovic/Stromile Swift
C Chris Mihm

Unfortunately, we don't have Deron Williams in LA.

I tried staying up to get a glimpse of Critt, but just couldn't manage.

Thanks for the recap, DB. Hawaii & the Lakers live? Could life get any better?

Saw the game but fell asleep during the 4th quarter. Dangit! Fortunately, I taped it, so I will watch it again tonight

DB, thanks for the post. I always look forward to these from you. Imagine how good this thread would have been if DB had even taken notes!

Gotta love this forum!

Did anyone notice that when someone came off the bench for GSW its like "they have him too". It seems like they have a lot of horses. Thought we did pretty well for the 1st PS game.

I SO want Mo Evans to be OUR athletic guy on the wing. But sometimes, the dude just doesn't "get it". If you saw the game last night, you'd know what I'm talking about.

I feel the same way. He's going to be 29 years old. How much improvement can he make? At least we see some improvement from Sasha year to year.

Excellent analysis as always. A couple of observations....

Farmar- Threw some excellent post entry passes, especially to Bynum. He was also a lot less tenative than last year. Bad numbers, but as you said...he contributed in other ways.

Kobe- I thought you were really kind to him in your evaluation. He did a very poor job as the facilitator last night, and made several poor decisions. I also think that it's important that he finds a middle ground between barely looking for his shot at all (1st half) and Planet Kobe. (3rd quarter)

Mihm-He looked like he's lost a bit of his athleticism. Did you notice this too? He did hustle and compete though.

A question for those who watched the game:

Who is responsible for defiending Kelenna Azubuike? He scored 27 points. The guy averaged 7.1 points last year.

Based on his play last night, Azubuikd seems to be the kind of player that we wish Mo was.
