Three more hits for Bichette today and he's up to .243; Toronto has won 4 of 5. Oh, and Arraez had 4 more hits for San Diego today and he's now all the way up to .341. Dude is a hitting machine who doesn't strike out. Wouldn't have solved our SS problem (Mookie's defense is really suffering lately), but damn, this guy is a tough out. |

Paxton actually had a better era than Yamamoto and Glasnow coming into this game and I almost mentioned it before but I didn’t want to get accused of jinxing him when he had a bad start.
If you look at some of the other stats though that was clearly a fluke. |

I just hope this was a one off and the fluke continues. |

I know Paxton wasn't exactly dominating, but it still doesn't sit well with me to pull him when he's 1 out away from qualifying for a victory with a man on 1st and 2 outs...not when you're bringing Ramirez in. It would be one thing if it was a proven, trusted reliever coming into that spot. And since our bullpen is short right now of quality, proven arms, just leave the veteran starter in. Then Vesia comes in on the heels of the 3 Ramirez walks, he falls behind 3-1, and he understandably feels compelled to not walk the guy. The 3-1 was fouled off and then the 3-2 was mashed for the grand slam. |

Sounds like a perfectly rational move in Dave’s head. Ramirez decided to walk everyone instead of giving up his 74th homer in 93 innings. Vesia came in and let him have the ERs anyways
It was such a pivotal moment in the game and good ol Dave delivered. Gotta love it. He makes these bold and ridiculous moves all the time and I swear his success rate is like 20%. |

I apologize. Ramirez didn't walk all 3 batters he faced. Rather, he walked one and hit the other 2, actually hitting his third and final hitter on a 3-0 pitch. |

Maybe, but two points:
First, all teams, even the best of them, have low points--hell, Arizona last year had a season's worth.
Second, the Dodgers pitching was/is suspect, at least at the beginning of the season. Paxton, should have been considered a 4 or a 5 at the start and actually has been a pleasant surprise overall. Stone, a big unknown was certainly no better. Buehler, with two surgeries behind him, made it another unknown, but there was reason to be hopeful for something approaching his previous greatness. So, we had two likely solid pitchers, at the start, with some bullpen issues and a great offense, but really, only marginally better than last year with Shohei, essentially, replacing J.D. and Jason (until recently), and Lux replacing Rojas. So, that the team is playing .623 ball when last year they played .617 ball and won 100 games, should be measured, and is not really a let down considering all this--also, five starters, six until Buehler returned (with another gone for good being a dummy beating on his woman), are sidelined. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Walker bounced back and has been awesome so far. 1 out in the 5th and at 65 pitches. |

Close game, not even Freddie gets the job done with a man on 3rd and 1 out. We are so predictable, I swear. |

And then 2 innings before that Freddie leadoff double and nobody brings him home. So puke. |

Streaky team. When this team is winning all the breaks go their way. When this team is in a slump they are bad.... |

Exactly the same formula they will doom a team in October. Dave Roberts can’t do anything to stop the slump either. This team needs a vocal leader. Betts , freeman and Ohtani just not that type of leader who can light a fire under this team when their manager can’t. There is no sabetmetric formula for leadership, intangible and clutchness.

For those that watched the game, you may have noticed that Ohtani pretty much jogged to third base on his triple and barely beat the throw. Well, Roberts said after the game that he's dealing with a minor hamstring strain. Might explain his little slump at the plate over the past few games. |
