NFL Week 2 Overnights: National Window Hits Low, But Early Game High, on CBS
Absent Peyton Manning, Colts/Broncos was not exactly a ratings blockbuster.

nflcbslogoThe Week 2 NFL national window, featuring Colts/Broncos in 74% of markets, earned a 13.6 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 24% from Cowboys/Eagles on FOX last year (17.8) and down 7% from coverage featuring Chiefs/Broncos on CBS in 2014 (14.6).

Excluding Week 17 of the season, when both FOX and CBS have doubleheaders, the 13.6 is the lowest for the NFL national window since Week 8 in 2014 (13.0). It is also the lowest for the national window in Week 2 of the season since 2007 (11.2).

Eight of the 12 NFL telecast windows thus far have hit a multi-year low in the overnights.

Earlier in the day, regional action scored a 10.9 overnight — up 10% from both last year and 2014 (9.9 both years). The early doubleheader window has now hit a multi-year high in back-to-back weeks.

The dude with the operatic voice? Yes he is amazing. One of the few good things Chicago sports has to offer.

Carson Wentz is looking good for a rookie. He just dropped a floater in the bucket Brady like. Looks like he should have been the Rams first round pick.

Bears bend don't break. Their red zone defense is raw.

Charlie Whitehurst headed to Cleveland

The Browns are signing veteran quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, his agent tweeted Monday night.

The Browns are already on their third quarterback of the season following injuries to Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown. Rookie Cody Kessler is the likely starter for this week and came into Monday as the only healthy quarterback on the active roster.

The Browns are Whitehurst’s fifth NFL team. A third-round pick of the Chargers in 2006, Whitehurst has made nine career starts and has also played with the Seahawks, Titans and Colts. He played in four games for the Colts last season and started five for the Titans in 2014.

For his career, Whitehurst has completed 55 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Yup. He's definitely not one of those big, athletic QBs who spends more plays running than throwing a la Kaepernick. Kid's got an arm. He's getting the ball downfield with ease and his accuracy is impressive.

Hope you're wrong but I get the feeling if we drafted Wentz he'd be sitting this year just like Goff. If he did play, he'd be hobbled by this offense we're running.

Does not showing the Indy/Denver game in the second largest TV market in the country hurt ratings?

I agree, we are seeing some offensive creativity tonight (not a surprise for a Pederson-coached team), especially compared to what we saw in the Ram games.

Yeah. Pederson's a well known QB guru while Jeff Fisher hasn't had a QB since Steve McNair and he probably got lucky on that one. Wentz in a Rams uni would probably fare no different than Goff. You've got his bad receivers, poor play calling, dumbass coach, and average OL.

Good to see the Bears giving Jordan Howard some carries, I still think he is their best running back. And Wentz already makes better decisions than Cutler does.

Thought maybe the Bears might Win One For The Ditka. He was the Monday Night Countdown guest. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

They paid a princely sum for Sam Bradford, as they didn't want to waste Adrian Peterson in his prime. This will bite them in the behind, though it could have been worse: They could have traded first round picks for Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.

The Vikes also lost their starting LT, Matt Kalil, to IR.

Cowboys fan here. Dak looks great so far. He's one drop away from being 2-0. Really like his progress so far. Ellliott hasn't looked good at all, but it's still early and he missed all of pre-season with the exception of one drive against Seattle. He seemed to get better in this last game with the exception of the fumble. They finally got Dez involved. Have a game against a beat up Bears team at home. They should be able to finally get this run game going. If Zeke doesn't have a big day then I'll start to get concerned about whether that pick was a mistake. No excuse not to run over that defense with how depleted they're.

Defensively the Cowboys don't have a pass rush right now and that's troubling. Your two top pass rushers are suspended and only one of them will likely be back. I have no idea what they can do there short of trading a high draft pick for a pass rusher. Even if Romo comes back and lasts the rest of the season I don't see how they can overcome their horrible DL play and still compete for a Super Bowl.

The Viking were going to use him sparingly this year....now with another year on the clock and one spent being injured, I wonder if he will play another year in the NFL. 32 as a running back is ancient in todays NFL.

Well Jimmy Garopollo is listed as doubtful, to the surprise of no one. The Patriots pulled a rather transparent ruse to convince Houston that Jimmy G. could start, but I doubt Jimmy G. factored into the Texan planning.

Brissett has rather nice poise, mobility and an arm, but he's obviously not ready. I suspect New England will try two TE sets, so if you're a fantasy league junky, you might want to consider AJ Derby (a favorite preseason target) and Martellius Bennett. I have no idea if Gronk will play. I expect lots of blitzing by the ends, so there will be lots of opportunities for short passes to the TEs, especially if they feign or hold a pass block for a second. We'll see lots of running plays (something NE isn't good at) and screens. The Houston defense is really good, but they still haven't gotten their act together on offense; if I'm not mistaken, I think they have as many interceptions as TDs this season. I expect this to be a low scoring game.

Actually they did have Tebow in a couple of years ago. I thought they wanted him as a TE, but I think Belichick was toying with the idea of making Tebow a 2 point conversion specialist QB.

The emergency backup option is Julian Edelman, who was drafted as a QB out of Kent State. He's only thrown one pass his entire NFL career, but it came at a pretty good time. He hit Amendola on a 51 yarder, good for a game-tying, fourth quarter TD in the playoffs.

Tebow didn't want to be anything but a QB in the NFL. I'm sure he would've made a decent position player but he wanted to be a QB solely because of the power of that position. He even said so himself.
