White men don’t get a pass, many of them are simply a lost cause. Along with some allies, the GOP is all about white men and their most craven wants.

I've been hearing some form of this refrain for every single election for my entire life.. not to say it isn't true, but at the same time..

What are you four?😂😉

But seriously, if you can’t see we are on a precipice the likes of which this country hasn’t seen for many generations, I don’t know what to say. We could be 6 months away from the beginning of the end of all democracy in this country.

If women show up dems will win.

It's not even remotely that simple. A significant percentage of women are republicans who are willing to vote against their own best interests, and many of them live in the purple states.

Mid-term elections are about turnout of your base, not about convincing the other side to switch to your side.

Traditionally, GOP turnout in mid-terms is high -- because they stay angry and motivated all the time; and Democratic turnout is lower than presidential election years because out side doesn't look at voting as a full-time duty and think they need to be given a reason to vote, or need to be wooed to vote, or think they have to be head over heals in love with the candidate to vote.

You can see the problem.

Our side needs to grow the hell up and be responsible all the time, not just once very four years. Because pretty soon even voting every four years will be moot with Republicans retaining power no matter what the vote count by rigging the system -- just like Putin does.

And that's also how Republicans took over so many state legislatures. Democrats sitting home for "boring" local races.

Republicans don't actually have popular ideas. They win because of fear mongering, racism, gerrymandering, voter suppression (including convincing Democrats to stay home) and structural benefits to the GOP like the electoral college and Senate representation. And when that doesn't work they stacked the court to implement deeply unpopular polices from the bench.

The answer is to vote a straight blue ticket every time, and vote in every election. Register as many new voters as possible. If our side did that, we wouldn't have to worry about 55% of white women or racist non-college white men. Yes, they'll win the deep red states and a couple of purple states. But that's it.

Theoretically, all the recent Supreme Court decisions have presented our side with the opportunity to get our base as angry as the GOP base.

Did some digging into the polls lately.
R's are grabbing non college educated people across the board. To different degrees depending on the demographics (white, black, hispanic, and male vs female).

AA women we've actually seen an increased in D support. But every other demographic. Even male AA's. We are losing some people on the margins if they are non college educated.

I wish someone could find breakdowns of the 55% of white women who vote R -- because I would bet they are mostly non-college and married. That's not an excuse for them, but it does explain things more fully than just saying "white women."

they wont but what I can see happening is corporations rethink their logistics. California Iirc denied federal employees to go to tx (on fed $$) among a few others when trump imposed his Muslim ban. It was short-lived but I can see this affecting the local economy.

Even without cheating, there is an inherent advantage to the GOP appeal because it is based on the illogic of humans. We are tribal, and we all want things, but we don’t want to pay for them. That’s why the back and forth in control of the government. Because the republicans almost always screw everyone except the rich, drive the economy into a ditch, and then people turn to the democrats to fix it. But as soon as the democrats implement the things that fix it, the same people start whining because they don’t like having to pay the cost of the repair, and they especially don’t like feeling like they are paying for ANYTHING that someone else is benefitting from. They want democratic safety nets for themselves but not for others, and they want it with republican tax and regulation policies. So republicans just play to their tribal and selfish grievance. And it works.

Ironically, as we have seen on this site, there are some "democrats" who feel that way. They demand fixes in the same breath they complain about their taxes being too high.

We should be drumming up fear as well. Again, the intellectual approach simply doesn't work with the average American.

From women's rights, LBTQ+ rights, racism, to theocratic fascism and a whole helluva lot more, there's so much ammo to be utilized. Hell, I'm doing alrite but am still uneasy as hell with the direction this country is going. I'm outta here if it's a full takeover by the religious right. We're a laughingstock on the world stage...even moreso than when W was in charge and that's quite a feat.

This is called moral clarity.

Quote:
A.R. Moxon @JuliusGoat

One of the most damaging tropes in public discourse is the idea that there is some posture that normal decent people just trying to live their lives can take toward conservative Christians and other American fascists that will be deferential enough to preclude their oppression.

There is no appeasement or strategic retreat that will convince them to permit people to just live their lives.

Nothing other than full surrender to their exact specifications will stop them from smiling and praying for you as they lovingly lower you into the boiling oil.

The only strategies we should accept are: witness to their hatred w/o room for debate; moral clarity about our own entanglement with their oppressive structures, resolute hope to believe liberation is possible, and uncompromising defiance of their grotesque methods and beliefs.

This is why I reject calls to "appeal to their better angels." No group who ever performed atrocities against their fellow humans ever did so before 1st convincing themselves they were uniquely good.

They already worship their "better angels." They don't need our help.

Christian fascists need total control but they demand to be seen as good while receiving it. Take that away from them. Refuse to give that to them. See them exactly as they are, and reflect what they do to their fellow humans back to them.

That's witness.

Some state was saying they're going to use trained dogs at airports
To sniff women citizens who are leaving the state to see if they're pregnant

Democrats need to start shocking adverts
A dog with it's face stuck in a woman's groin would be shocking

These Putin Republicans make me sick.

If Garland DOJ IRS would have done their jobs
Ginni Thomas would be incarcerated and Clarence under investigation..no votes from that Hatemonger
Trump would have never made a run if IRS did their job
Should have been removed from chance to run again the minute we had a new president

18 months over 500 days and not one political figure arrested

Need more evidence.. IMPOSSIBLE

I blame both Mueller and Garland for MAGA and these SC rulings

Joe Scarborough really does not like DeSantis. Positive polling for Democratic side, even two years out.

Quote:
Joe Scarborough @JoeNBC

MEDIA BIAS ALERT: Kamala Harris hasn’t had a positive profile in a year. DeSantis sneezes and he’s framed as the rising star of politics. And yet the Great White Hope STILL loses is every head-to-head matchup with Harris. The VP also draws even with Trump.

Here’s a recent poll showing Biden beating DeSantis and Trump. Newsom beating DeSantis and Trump, Harris beating DeSantis and drawing with Trump.

Here are the most recent senate polls. Democrats winning in Georgia, NH, Arizona, and Nevada.

Here’s my takeaway: DeSantis will melt under the national spotlight, Trump is damaged goods, and Republicans are so extreme they’re chasing voters away who don’t consider themselves Democrats. This 2022 election is far more competitive at this stage than it should be.

And two years is a lifetime. Trump may be ahead of DeSantis in primary matchups (though I’m skeptical he would beat him) but Trump will not win a general election in 2024. DeSantis can, Youngkin can, and several other Republicans can. Not Trump.

A Chinese attack on Taiwan is not imminent, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley has said, but the US is watching "very closely".

China is clearly developing the capability to attack at some point, but deciding to do so would be a political choice, Genral Milley told the BBC.

China says Taiwan is a breakaway province that must be re-unified with the mainland, by force if necessary.

Context for another mass shooting at 4th of July parade today (reportedly by a young white male):

Quote:

Heidi Li Feldman @HeidiLiFeldman (law professor)

There is a direct connection between destroying opportunities for safe public gatherings and menacing American democracy. 1/

In a pluralist democracy it is vital for for people of varied backgrounds to be able use and enjoy public spaces together. Gathering for parades, for entertainment, for education etc. builds a sense of civil society that allows for diversity of religion, race, gender, creed…2/

Our public spaces and accommodations- streets, shopping areas, sports venues, schools, parks, buses, etc. - are where we ordinarily come together, interacting in small ways with people unlike ourselves, learning how to share civic life. 3/

We ordinarily can learn that we can be together happily both despite and because our differences. Gun violence in this country interferes with this, and this why anti-democracy institutions and people actively want more guns available to more people. 4/

By making it dangerous for people of diverse backgrounds to gather in public, gun mongers promote fear and suspicion of one another. 5/

By making public space so vulnerable to deadly violence, those who promote and push guns strike at the civil fabric. 6/

We must insist on a return to a livable interpretation of the 2A, more civil accountability for the gun industry - not out of dislike of arms but out of a love for American pluralist democracy. 7/7

The recent Supreme Court decisions are all related and interconnected. The thread that connects them is white supremacy, in particular white male supremacy. White men get more guns to bully and intimidate women, people of color, gays, liberals, doctors and culturally diverse groups that would support one another.
