it might behoove lg to set a limit on the # of new-threads/person/<period>
Too much mod effort IMO. Also, I think none of the popular board scripts let mods have that kind of control. I would still raise the limit to a much higher limit (>500) though. You want people to use the threads already there, and there will be many created anyway during playoffs. It's not as if you're being restricted from posting or participating.
Hmmm, I understand and in fact I agree, but there are also long time readers, who come here almost every day and hardly post a message.
Don't ignore them.
Consider that too.
I'm pleased with the change but that's a valid point...
I've been out of the computer industry for years now so I don't know what's possible with web servers but we used to activate accounting for logon data for legal purposes - a bit of overhead though, in the old days.
So if a user account is set to logon automatically and then the server tracks 100 or 500 logons --- you could allow an exception.
It's no help if the logon data isn't already there but it's something... maybe...
The cost/time of doing it might not be worth it if it's not a simple flip o the switch...
I'm sure our all knowing mods have thought of it...

<sarcasm>Can we do something about the "Kobe vs. Jordan" and "Should Shaq retire a Laker" posts? I say anyone with less than 10 years or 100,000 posts should not be allowed to start threads on these topics</sarcasm> _________________ "It’s like going to the Getty and standing in front of Van Gogh’s Irises while some schmuck next to you critiques individual brush strokes. Agreed. Anyone who joined at least 4 years ago, currently 2007 should have no restrictions.

Excluding game threads, how many days should an average member take to get to 100 posts? My guess is 10 posts a day, so that's 10 days.
So make it a 10 day limit before someone can start a thread. Making the 100 posts rule will just encourage people to pad their posts, such as in game threads. _________________ WELCOME TO THE LOS ANGELES BIG BALL BRAND.

Then they can make an account, leave, and come back. In fact, they can make several as back-ups for after they get banned. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

All,
We are currently experimenting with a new feature that requires users to have at least 100 posts before they can start a new thread. After we gauge the effects of this feature we will decide whether to keep it, remove it, or change the minimum post count.
Users who pad their post count in order to get to 100 will be dealt with in the harshest manner allowable. Consider this your one and only warning not to pad your post count.

This rule needs to be expanded outside the web:
How about watching 100 old Laker games all the way through before calling yourself a Laker fan? _________________ "Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world and is basically unstoppable when his game is on" - Barack Obama

Here's a rookie that doesn't even know what thread he's in. And if a poster can't figure out something this simple, how can he be trusted to start a thread of his own?? I vote for a 1000 post limit.

Noice!!!
What do the rest of you guys think of having the Welcome thread stickied at the top of the Lounge with an initial post that breaks down the basic do's and don'ts of LG ?

Seems like the best place for it by far IMO.
Thoughts ?
Bueller ? Bueller ?
Anybody ?

Well, the policy is taking it's toll. I don't see a lot of "useless" threads with OPs with post counts less than 100 or "Want top-quality shoes for low price?" threads.
I believe BobbyJ should be the one of the few that should post a thread in the Lounge. _________________ (❍ᴥ❍ʋ) ʕʘᴥʘʔ (⌐ ͡■ ͜ʖ ͡■) (┛◉Д◉)┛( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽
