But so far no one has talked about the REAL reason Eric took the Times job. There's a pecking order to media seating. Eric often got squeezed out of the courtside seating by more important people -- you know, like me -- so he had to wallow up at the top of 117 or even in the upper press box, while we courtside got a constant stream of adulation, up-close basketball, and Laker Girl foot massages.
But now that he's a member of the LA Times' staff things will change. He'll be right there with us in 108 or 114. Of course, within the Times' staff he'll be the low man on the totem pole, so he'll have to sit behind Bres. And Plaschke. And Simers. And Barry Starvo. And Ben Bolch. And Baxter Holmes. And Brad Turner if it's a Lakers-Clips game. And Mike James.
Okay, never mind -- you'll still be up in 117. But I'll see if I can get Bres to chip in a foot massage now & then. |
You sound tense. I think you need acupuncture. |

It is very nice to see someone dedicated to his profession gain the attention and accolades he deserves. I must say I am so impressed with the sheer amount of writers / experts that have been and are an integral part of LG. You, Larry and Holly (and anyone I haven't mentioned due to ignorance) are the greatest representatives LG could have in the basketball world. Keep up the fantastic work and enjoy the ride. _________________ Stop crying and start doing.

Congratulations, Eric. You undoubtedly deserve it. You have worked hard and been dedicated ... and have kept an even keel even when poked at by fans with a stick (or even a bat).
We are all very proud of you.
Sincerely. |

Congrats. It'll be cool to read articles in the L. A. Times written by a dude that replied to our posts. Hopefully Eric becomes the next Jim Murray...... |

Whatever you do... Continue to keep it real and objective. Too many guys in the L.A. times sports pages who come across as having agendas, apparently don't really like the Lakers, but love the job, or writers who let the pendulum swing too far in the opposite direction in attempts to sound unbiased, like they're not a homer, or not like a "Lakers Fan" I.E. J.A. Adande, Michael Smith, or Mike B. Some in the past have also gotten too close to the subject matter (I.E. Shaq) to the point where they were afraid to get on their bad side, and lose invitations to their private parties and perks (I.E. Adande, Michael Smith, etc.)
I know it's taboo for a reporter to outwardly "root" for a team, but don't be afraid to show your colors as a Lakers Fan and/or supporter in your writing when the occasion calls for it. Especially, on the occasions when you'll be asked to do Video segments for t.v. Remember where you came from, and we'll always support your work. Congratulations! I feel like this is the beginning of big things for you. _________________ Blood, sweat, tears,

Congrats, EP. Always appreciated your work ESPECIALLY during the dog days of the summer when little news was to be had. Even when it was just some thoughts and speculation, it was great to get some sort of basketball fix from a guy we kinda all watched "grow up" on here.
