Going to pass MJ in the next game! What an accomplishment. How many people come out as 18 year olds and say they are going to be great and then joint the pantheon?
Man are we lucky to have had this dude on our team!

Wish he could have done it in Staples.
Let's get the win and avenge the bad loss against the Timberwolves.
I'm super happy for him. I just want him to also get it with a win in a good game where the team is also really happy for him. I think there's also something fitting that it will happen against the city where the Lakers started. |

I've had so many Laker favorite players but I really think he is the one I appreciate the most. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman |

Did it really need to be requested of people not to be negative about the best thing the NBA's had going for it for the last 15 years? _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Kobe overtakes Jordan on a night where we overtake the people of Minneapolis! Would be nice to see more Lakers jerseys than Twolves. |

Hopefully not, but if so, the ban taser has fresh batteries. Proceed with your celebrations gents, and ladies... _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

As much as I P&M about Kobe, I have for the most part greatly enjoyed watching him. I believe he will go down as the hardest working and most dedicated NBA player, possibly athlete all-time. His skills and talent are legendary; if I could have one player to be a NBA repository it would be Kobe since he is an NBA encyclopedia. I salute his career. I do wish him the best and hope he can get ring #6 (somehow) and maybe 7. Don't misconstrue my statistical predictions and disappointment in his Extension as hatred of the guy. He is the living embodiment of the Lakers so I do have tremendous respect for him. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I actually shed a tear last night when my best friend and I realized that living in Florida we're only gonna get to see him at least 4 more times. I miss the days of no responsibilities and being able to watch greatness whenever I desired. This is going to be harder than Magic for me. Kobe is the sports icon of my generation on my favorite team. Whew... |

It did. LG is just about as bad as Yahoo sports right now. |

The main problems are the "objective" douches who have to tell you exactly how little Kobe has be respected. And exactly how much better everyone else is than him.
Most of these guys are obvious troll fans of other teams. _________________ Lakers win record when Kobe goes for 40+ points

Watching him vs. Duncan put things into perspective. Duncan's been just another very good player for about 6 years now. Our expectations of what Kobe should be at this point are unrealistic, and can obscure the appreciation we should have for him. The fact that we expect him to be a superstar in his 19th year is actually quite an unintentional testament to him. |

It is a big deal passing MJ and going to #3 on the all time scoring list. A big big deal.
Kobe has put together an amazing career, even his biggest detractors would have to commend him for his will and drive. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

In the Spurs game, they showed some fans there wearing Kobe's high school jersey. Now that he is almost certain to pass MJ in the next game, hopefully, we will see even more of the fans in the stands honoring him. |

My late pops use to say he never saw a player like Kobe and my pop saw everybody from Elgin to west...now that I have a son ans have taken him to a half dozen games hopefully he can appreciate Kobe like I did when my dad took me to see the 70s and 80s laker teams ... _________________ RIP.....Pop (AJ Sr.) 7/09/23-01/20/09
Thanks for 35 years of love, sacrifice and joy...also for taking me to all the lakers games at the GW forum as a youngster and helping me understand the joy that comes from watching a lakers game |

The bitterness and the jealousy of the Jordan firsters is delicious to watch though.
The teeth gnashing over at BSPN, Yahoo, FB etc is pretty over the top. |

I used to get seats in the row directly behind the Laker bench once a season, and one of my favorite Kobe memories involves my wife, who isn't a sports fan. She's someone who's also very attuned to body language and non-verbal cues.
We're in these seats, and the Lakers run out of the tunnel for warmups. She's only sort of paying attention, then she whips her head up, and stares at Kobe, who got her attention out of the corner of her eye. I'll never forget what she said.
"He reminds me of a great white shark."
I thought that was so (bleep) perfect. Being close to him while he's on the court is an INCREDIBLE experience. She hit the nail on the head, in terms of what it feels like, and she's not even a sports fan. Never seen that degree of intensity emanating from a human being before.
