What drives me crazy about the young voters who don't want to vote for Biden is, afaik, they profess to care about abortion (guess whose SCOTUS judges overturned Roe), guns (guess which party's SCOTUS judges ruled for DC vs Heller), healthcare (guess which candidate tried to repeal Obamacare), and climate change (guess which candidate actually passed transformative climate change legislation)?

But more than that -- I can almost forgive Gen Z voters who weren't of voting age when Trump was elected. But I have friends my age (whose first election was either '12 or '16) who literally saw the consequences of "Hillary and Trump are the same" rhetoric when Roe was killed (among many other things). They should know better!

A huge percentage of voters are morons, especially single-issue voters. This includes people on both sides of the voting aisle.

Very true. The ridiculous thing about this instance is how self destructive a hill to die on this one is. Not only is Trump a worse option for their best interests overall, he's far worse than Biden when it comes to their one issue.

I've had this discussion here before..you are missing the point. For many of them it is "burn baby burn"...they don't care. They are trying to bring the war home, albeit in an indirect, nonviolent way. You call them morons, they think the system is smug and they want to shock the system. They lose, but so do you. Maybe that's their point.

That’s their choice, but I think it’s beyond foolish. If their skin is brown, they probably won’t get another chance as they’re likely to be put in a camp and deported depending on their heritage. This is not a joke.

Kikanga provided a nuanced response, validating their sentiment while still disagreeing with their premise - i can get on board with that. You resorted to name calling. It's not very productive. Hopefully it's just how we all interact on an anonymized mesaage board for something as frivolous as basketball and not with well meaning citizens in real life because we will not win hearts and minds that way.

My social circle is mostly progressives. And some liberals. In California. A non-swing state.

Everybody. Needs to get on board with the importance and responsibility of this upcoming election.

What do swing state college and young kids think?
I don't know. Cause it's been years since I've been on a swing state college campus.
But those people need to get on board.

And Biden and his people need to get on board with that threat as well.

I trust he's done the research. And can beat the existential threat Trump poses to our Democracy and the rights of people everywhere. Maybe Biden's commitment to Bibi increases his chances of re-election. And that is good for Gaza.

Cause complain about Biden left and right. He's better than Trump on Gaza. Kushner already said it. 10s of thousands of deaths. And Kush is thinking of condos. LINK

My question for those that advocate for the Burn it All Down Party, what's the anticipated end that justifies the means for these "well meaning people"?

What's the message for the millions of young people who are still too young to vote and whose already bleak futures will become worse as Right Wing Authoritarianism seizes control of the country because some people are willing to lose as long as everyone else does?

None of the progressives I listen to adopt that philosophy. Be it members of the Progressive Caucus who have toed the Democratic line on votes. Or commentators on Majority Report, Pod Save America, and Pod Save the World.

So, I struggle to make the argument for the people you are talking about. My coworker is one of the people you are talking about. And he believes if things get bad enough, for enough people, a major swing to Democratic socialism will sweep the country.

But I burst his bubble all the time. That doesn't make sense. Liberals will blame progressives for sitting out. And the environment created by right wing fascists won't allow liberalism let alone progressivism.

Exactly my point, and is why we can't just sit back politely and accept their attitude as well meaning and benign as strong9 suggests we should.

Unfortunately, we clearly don't live in a world where everyone's ideals are valid; some people's methods of achieving their ideals is inherently dangerous to the greater good of society, and that applies to both ends of the political spectrum, which doesn't actually have ends at all; it has a bottom of a circle where the extremists come right back around to meeting up.

This is what? The 10th time or something? Threats only work when the person they are aimed at believes they will be followed through on. Trumps knows Merchan will never put him in jail, and Merchan just admitted it.

This just proves why the system will never hold him accountable. No one is above the law, yet here we have a judge stating he doesn’t want to put someone who should be in jail in jail simply because he was POTUS.

If it is a progressive who always finds a reason not to vote Dem. I'm not sympathetic.

If it's someone who says. I've swallowed alot and always voted Dem. But I can't swallow this: LINK

I'm not gonna try to convince them. I know Trump is worse. But I'm not comfortable making the lesser of 2 evils argument with the death and devastation related to this lesser evil.

I just have to hope Biden has factored in the votes he'll lose on this issue and has targeted other demographics to get the win. There is responsibility to keep Trump out of office on both ends (politician and voter).

The "disruption of proceedings" reasoning doesn't make much sense as there are plenty of defendants that sleep in jail and come to the courthouse in the morning.

BUT even if we assume that it would be disruptive, what he can do is sentence him now but delay jail until the end of the trial. That has been suggested by many legal experts and it wouldn't disrupt a thing.

Frightening interview of NYT's Executive Editor this weekend. He basically says that the preservation of democracy is not the #1 issue according to some polls he doesn't cite and therefore the paper shouldn't focus too much on it. And they don't want to be seen as a paper that favors any side.

This is how much of the mainstream media operates these days, treating this like any other election.

Remember there was a TIME magazine interview about a week ago where Trump says a bunch of crazy stuff? As we all predicted, it was a one day story and no one talks about it anymore.

The Times are also upset with Biden for refusing to give them an interview..

The NYTimes is a complete joke now. I’m pretty sure Trump isn’t going to look too kindly on them either way. I hope it’s worth it to them with this asinine “both sides” BS they’ve been pushing.

Of course.

I would describe it a little differently.

I hope at the end of the day each individual American votes for what's best for themselves.

When Americans vote for their self interest. And the majority is declared the winner. That is democracy working correctly.

Our founding fathers didn't factor in people voting against their own self interest. I guess they took for granted idiotic behavior we see from poor Conservatives voting against their own self interests.

Key term Their self interests. Idiotic fits. They may truly believe Trump's way is in their self interests, White Supremacy.

This apparently is the deal that Israel had OK'd, so I think this is just Hamas calling Israel's Bluff, so we'll see what BIBI does.

My prediction is Israel will go into Rafah with a ground invasion. At the end of the day, Bibi has to satisfy Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. Bibi is just a puppet. This is all Itamar Ben-Gvir, and if he is not happy, BIBI goes to jail

We've been discovering that people in our society have such short memories.

They have forgotten how crazy the Trump regime was.

They have forgotten how bad and bleak the pandemic was, and how there was a good chance in 2020 that we would never get back to normal, that many jobs that were lost would never come back and that there was a good chance we would never have a safe and effective vaccine.

And when Trump was inaugurated in 2017, people even forgot how bad the George W Bush presidency was. Even liberals said at the time they would gladly welcome W back to the presidency.

I've seen rankings of former presidents where W is in the middle of the pack. NO. He was one of the two or three worst presidents we ever had. F him and his administration.
