I Wasn’t a Kobe Bryant Fan While He Was Playing. Here’s How I Became One After He Retired
Quote:
Every time I saw Kobe on TV, I caught myself smiling. During his jersey retirement, I was cheering. During his acceptance speech at the 2018 Academy Awards, I was clapping. As I watched him celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles’ improbable Super Bowl LII win, I laughed. I found myself loving every clip of him interacting being a normal human and not a superstar basketball player.
Slowly but surely, my label as a Kobe Bryant hater was starting to peel off. I started to care less and less about his legacy as a player and more about his legacy as a man. His message about the Mamba Mentality did not just have to be applied to a professional athlete, but to anybody who wants to be the best version of themselves,” in any area or profession. He began to openly discuss how the sexual assault allegations leveled against him in 2003 changed him as a person. Kobe was maturing as a person in front of our eyes and from a distance, I revered him.
I write all this to say that although I’ll miss Kobe because he was a spectacle on the court, I’ll miss him even more because of the man he became once he walked off of it.
Kobe Bryant Remembered by Magic Players: 'He Inspired All of Us'
Quote:
ORLANDO - The NBA world is remembering Kobe Bryant today, three years after he was killed in a helicopter crash alongside eight other people, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
Quote:
"I remember just playing against Kobe, even that farewell tour, and having an opportunity to play against a legend like that is something I'm going to be able to tell my kids about," Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris said. "He inspired all of us to play the game of basketball, so it's definitely going to be a tough day for a lot of us."
Quote:
"He's one of my favorite players," Wendell Carter Jr. said. "He was one of those guys that was a once-in-a-generation talent. Kobe had everything a basketball player wants. Going into another year of losing him is going to be tough for the basketball world, but it shows how much appreciation we have for him at the same time."

I know Kobe Bryant is & always will be a basketball legend, but when I think of him, this is the image that comes to mind. He was the ultimate girl dad. He made it something to be — to honor, to be proud of. That alone changes lives. It changes men. It changes how girls grow up.
'I HAVE TO FULFILL THIS MAN'S PROPHECY': KOBE IS STILL INSPIRING KLAY THOMPSON
Quote:
He wishes Bryant were around to see it. But more than anything, he wishes Bryant were here for his wife and daughters and his millions of fans around the world.
But even in Bryant's absence, Thompson has vowed to continue to try to make him proud.
"I just try to stay present every day because it's been going by so fast — my career, that is," he said. "I want to look back and say I gave it everything I had, just like Kobe did. I know Kobe can look back on his 20 years and say he maximized his potential. I want to do the same."
And whenever he falters, he still has that video of Bryant to keep him going.
To this day, he often re-watches his childhood hero calling him a stone-cold killer.
"I hold those words dear to my heart," he said. "I don't think we'll see another player like him ever again.

Can’t believe this was already three years ago. Still doesn’t feel real. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
