i was born in P. R. China then immigrated to U.S. when i was 12 along with my family. i always have a soft spot for PRC in my heart despite of all its flaws, i'm not ashamed to say it. but the latest Wuhan cronoavirus really had me angry and sad at the same time toward my birth country.
despite all the technological advances and booming economy of that country, people over there are still eating animals we usually see in zoos and caves. what kind of civilization is that? also the government cover up is disgusting, Wuhan should've made the blockage unannounced, instead, they announced it early so about 5mil Wuhan citizens fled the city and have been spreading virus all over China and rest of the world. also lack of emergency preparedness by its central government is also laughable. this is the country supposed to challenge U.S. as the no. 1 power in the world right? well check this out, one of my relatives in China works for a decent size hospital in a fairly big city, and they ran out of face masks, the head of the hospital had to call multiple manufacturers to overpay just to get a small amount of them. where is their beloved central government when you need them? |

Hopefully the Chinese government will finally implement food safety standards and stop the trade and consumption of wild animals. This outbreak is causing them losses of billions of dollars. |

i'm sure central government has some kind of regulation in place for wild animal. but just too many people in that country and too many old bad habits to break. |

same story every time China faces health related crisis, same with SARS:
1. cover up as much, as long as possible of the actual story
2. when can't cover up anymore, play the sentimental card, broadcast images and video clips of medical/1st responder personnel's life during the crisis. not that they don't deserve it, but the timing is very interesting
3. when the crisis grew worse, they point the finger at the America, some conspiracy theories will pop up all over the internet in china that U.S. is somehow behind everything
rinse and repeat |

Looks like they changed the quarantine at March AFB from just 3 days to 14 days out of an abundance of caution. |

A Chinese woman infected with the new coronavirus showed a dramatic improvement after she was treated with a cocktail of anti-virals used to treat flu and HIV, Thailand's health ministry said Sunday.
The 71-year-old patient tested negative for the virus 48 hours after Thai doctors administered the combination, doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich said during the ministry's daily press briefing.
"The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours," Kriengsak said.
"From being exhausted before, she could sit up in bed 12 hours later."
The doctors combined the anti-flu drug oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, anti-virals used to treat HIV, Kriengsak said, adding the ministry was awaiting research results to prove the findings.

Chinese doctors threatened over using their social media
to try and warn friends and co-workers about the possibility of a new SARS virus
immediately spreading
*On a side note, when I had to turn off the life support machines on my
Step father's life he was on a ventilator and comatose caused by ARDS
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

On Saturday, another "rumormonger" came forward with her story in the Chinese press.
Xie Linka, an oncologist at Wuhan Union Hospital, told Chinese media she received a warning from police after sending an alert to her colleagues in a WeChat group on the evening of December 30.
In the message, Xie relayed a warning from fellow doctors about an infectious disease: "Don't go to Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in the near future. Several people were found to have contracted an unknown pneumonia similar to SARS there. Today our hospital has received multiple patients from the market. Everyone please remember to wear masks and ventilate properly."

Chinese communist party is known to only report good news, squash bad ones. they had no choice but to go public with this epidemic. it's a shame the front line doctors have to walk on thin ice, on one hand they have to do whatever neccessary to cure patients, on the other hand, they have to watch out what they say, one wrong word could be severe consequence. God i'm so glad i live in America now.

Corona virus is as dangerous as the Influenza virus, nothing to much to worry about unless you're immunocompromised |

The flu has caused an estimated 180,000 hospitalizations and 10,000 deaths in the US this season. We’re more likely to catch that which is more than enough motivation to get a flu shot every year. Imagine adding those numbers up over 10 years or more! |

A sibling of a classmate of mines died from the flu....and this virus doesn't have any vaccines and seeing the reaction from the Chinese government, this is much more severe, so no it is most likely much worse if Thai doctors are using HIV drugs to treat it. |

Well, aside from the fact that it is more contagious, has about 12-14 times more cases that are medically severe (require intervention), and is running a much higher mortality rate, sure. _________________ “We must always take sides. For now....coronavirus is localized, if it spreads, countries or regions without the capacity to handle a health emergency will be decimated, especially since there is no vaccine for it yet. |

This new strain of the coronavirus (there are mild ones for sure), 2019-nCoV, doesn't have any vaccines, and it is very aggressive. OmarLittle right above too. Lots of concern is valid. |
