Fearless prediction: Mayer outperforms Kincaid (first TE off the board) and ends up a Hall of Famer when he is done. |
I love Kincaid, personally. Reminds me of Travis Kelce in the open field. I also liked the LaPorta pick by the Lions, even with Mayer on the board. LaPorta is a really fluid mover and Iowa is a TE factory. Still, Mayer has a high floor and should be nice in both the run and pass game. |
You are my guy for the draft Stu and follow it closer than I, but I am telling you Michael Mayer will be an impact player and I am a Notre Dame hater from childhood.
I am not sure about Kincaid as a blocker though he is a great receiver. LaPorta in my opinion was a terrible pick ahead of Mayer.
Here is what ESPN said about Mayer:

Michael Mayer's NFL draft profile
Check out the highlights from talented Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer.
Pre-Draft Analysis
Mayer is an excellent route runner whose ability to create separation with physicality getting out of his breaks is outstanding. He is savvy when locating soft spots in zone. His ability to win contested catches is second to none in the 2023 class, and he adjusts to passes thrown outside his frame. Mayer is powerful with the ball in his hands, generating yards by breaking tackles and carrying defenders. He's a tenacious blocker and his technique improved significantly during his three college seasons. -- Steve Muench
Matt Miller's NFL comp: T.J. Hockenson
Post-Draft Analysis
The Raiders signed O.J. Howard and Austin Hooper after trading away Darren Waller, but both signed one-year deals. Mayer has the talent to make immediate contributions and take over as the starter as a rookie. -- Muench _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Mayer is a nice all-around player, and maybe he does have a Jason Witten-like impact. But Mayer isn't nearly as fluid of a pass catcher. That's kind of where the league has moved, of course. Kincaid is not much of a blocker, true, he's a move TE for sure. So is LaPorta. I'm a big LaPorta fan. We'll see! |

Kincaid will have the advantage of going to a great situation in Buffalo.
I also am a huge Dan Campbell guy, so I know La Porta will find success in Detroit replacing Hockenstein,
Meanwhile, Mayer is going into pretty much chaos in Raiderland as I don't get overall what they are trying to do with their team.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out as you said.
My other quick draft thoughts:
Not sure about Stroud at #2, but I hope it works out for the Texans and CJ.
I like the shot Indy took at #4 with Richardson. My stepdad is a Florida Alum and huge Gators fan and he felt it was reach but the guy has top level size and athletic ability and can sling the ball impressively The knock on him is accuracy but I am glad the Colts are finally going with a young prospect rather than a broken down former great.
Philadelphia continues to outdraft other teams significantly in my opinion. As Stu pointed out, Carter at 9 and Nolan Smith at 30 are just great choices and totally in character with their team. As opposed to say whatever the Chargers were thinking with their first pick. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I like the pick, young guy with a lot of room to develop, feel like the first 2 picks are potential replacements for the guys they will have to cut next year because of the cap issues.
So far across 3 rounds Bolts have done ok, hopefully can round it out today with some nice value picks.
Thought Steelers had a great day 2 with Porter Jr, Benton, and then the value with Washington in the 3rd. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

Why was Russell Wilson so bad in Denver? Even Tim Tebow got them to the playoffs. |

Quote: | LB Shaquil Barrett's 2-year-old daughter drowns in pool
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett's 2-year-old daughter, Arrayah, drowned in a swimming pool at his home in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday.
"Today's tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time," the Buccaneers said in a statement. "While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah."
According to a statement from the Tampa Police Department, officers arrived at a Tampa residence just before 9:30 a.m. ET after receiving a call that a child had fallen into a pool. The child was then transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead shortly later, despite attempts to save her life.
The Tampa PD said an investigation is ongoing.
"It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident," according to the Tampa PD's statement.
Arrayah Barrett was the youngest of four children in the Barrett family.
Shaquil Barrett, 30, is entering his fifth season with the Buccaneers and has been named to the Pro Bowl twice, including in 2019 when he led the NFL with 19.5 sacks. His 2022 season was cut short by a torn Achilles.

Lamar Jackson was taking a lot of heat for representing himself, but in the end he is back in Baltimore and is the top paid player in the league.
And he didn't have to pay a commission! _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Dhop can still be a fantastic number 2 at this point in his career. Some franchise is gonna get a huge boost to their offense. |

The Bills are the betting favorites. You'd think that the Chiefs could make sense too. The Ravens signed Beckham and drafted Flowers and still have Bateman around, but even that one wouldn't shock me. The Giants have about a million smallish slot WR options but I'm not sure that they have a viable possession receiver with size on the outside, so maybe they could make sense. |

How much of a role will D-Hop's ego play in his decision? If he's willing to take a lesser role and a pay cut he'd hand the Ravens the Super Bowl. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The Ravens still have a lot to prove. They are implementing a new offense, I wouldn't say they have a juggernaut defense, and Lamar has to stay healthy and it will be interesting if he maintains elite QB status if he runs a lot less. And if he doesn't, then a bunch of solid WR's is kind of overkill. |

You're right Lamar got his bag. Sometimes that causes a falloff. Jackson is an underrated pocket passer. He's accurate, reads defenses, and has a strong arm. How will they ratio their run, and pass game? Anxious to see how Baltimore starts the season. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

really wish Raiders trade up for a future starting QB. enough of this patchworks with Jimmy G. do they even have a 3rd string QB? it's a QB league now, star WR can only do so much when you have a mediocre QB. |

Now they need to turn him loose and give him the directive to fling the football downfield. Maybe they need to go back to Don Coryell's playbook a little bit. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

My thoughts exactly. Joe Lombardi turned the guy into a Captain Checkdown, but I still blame Herbert for not taking more control of his destiny, so to speak. The guy has one of the most elite arms in NFL history, so it's time to turn him loose and let it rip down the field. I'm not saying they still can't incorporate some high-percentage throws, but they really need to let it fly far more often. |
