Stephen A was just on First Take and said flat out CP3 doesn't want to play for the Lakers because they already won a championship and he doesn't want to take the easy route to a championship. Basically said CP3 wants to be a major reason a team wins a championship. He mentioned the Clippers as the team he wants.
Makes sense because CP3 despite being friends with LeBron likes to be the alpha on the team.
Not that I thought we were getting him anyway but this pretty much confirms he's not coming even if he wanted to.

Who willingly chooses to be traded to Sarver's team? That's a sad way to close out a HOF career for CP3.
I'm not buying it until they actually do the trade.
But isn't the whole thing based on whether PHX is even willing to trade Mikal Bridges as part of it?
That's what makes it appealing to OKC. I don't think CP3 really wants to go there. More like, PHX has better assets to trade. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
That contract is brutal to begin with...now factor in 35 home games and severely diminished gate revenue.
Any team taking that much risk on via trade won't and shouldnt give up assets sought by OKC since they are relieving OKC of Lux Tax. Now the NBA could suspend lux tax like MLB but didnt. NBA could allow teams to spread out the payments to mitigate the risk but no word on that.
So essentially CP3's super max is now the ultimate albatross we all knew it would be. Cant believe the owners allowed it. It was intended to celebrate guys like LeBron for staying with a team for his career...instead it's rewarding guys like CP, Russ, Harden who've done nothing and want to chase a ring as lead dog on desperate teams that mortgage their future and cap to acquire them. Hope it goes away in the next bargaining agreement or that owners put in place it can only be earned each season with certain performance clauses both individual and team.
I'm all for it being an option but it cant be an annual guarantee. For example, if the player is traded or injured they lose the designation and are reverted to a typical max contract for their years of service.
Guaranteed super maxes were a part of that absurd Deng/Moz era where spending was so irresponsible. Then China happened twice! First the injury to the business relationship then the whoopsie at the WIV. Totally killed revenue...leaving CP3, Harden, and Russ owed money they dont deserve based upon production.
41M for a PG with a 17.6 and 9 stat line...meanwhile a guy like Tatum or Donavan is making peanuts by comparison. They'll get paid but this is typical Union financial management strategy...take from the productivity new guy to give excessively to the old timer. I love unions but cant stand this line aspect of them.
Pay should be for production not seniority or it throws everything out of financial balance. _________________ "If You're Afraid To Fail...Then You're Probably Going To Fail."

Who chooses to go to a dysfunctional Jeanie Buss team? All it takes is one.
did jeanie beat you up or something?
no idea why is this troll allowed to post here
VLF does have a point here though. Jeanie Buss WAS viewed as a disaster for quite some time and was viewed as just as incompetent an owner as Sarver. Maybe Sarver turned a new leaf as well. The Suns seem to headed in a good direction for once and it did not require Lebron coming to the Lakers to do it.

CP3 returning to the Lakers would of been a great story and I think with proper load management this three headed monster would of been pretty much guaranteed to another chip.
Either way we all knew his bloated mega max contract was a major speed bump in this happening.
Now that Phoenix will probably ride him till the brakes come off we should focus on bringing this entire championship team back for another ride.

I doubt CP3 is coming here. But the only thing that will confirm that is his being traded to another team. Until then, it's just rumors and speculation, like all the other free agent threads.
Stephen A reporting “ Chris Paul never wanted to Join the Lakers”
-Doesn’t want to be seen as a ring chaser
- Rather win a ring with him as sole leader on the team
- Doesn’t want to the take ball out of Lebron’s hand
- Stephen A also mention Clippers makes more sense without even considering the cap
This made my day. 65 pages, and the punchline is that the Clippers don't have an alpha.
If Chris wants to win a championship in a world-class city as the star, maybe it's time to leave State Farm as well. Aflac has the same mascot as Beijing, that would be convenient for everyone.
SAS saying CP3 wants to win as the alpha makes no sense when he says no to LeBron and the Lakers but would go to Kawhi and the Clippers instead. _________________

Oy. How many variations of the same post do you expect people to endure? Maybe just put in your sig and be done with it.
I was actually very happy to see Lebron take that chance and prove me wrong. My point is that Paul will be taking the same chance if he wants to turn the Suns around and ends up there. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

By whom?
All indications are that her peers (the other owners) hold her in highest regard, which is why they unanimously backed her when her older brothers tried to pull a coup.
In fact, since ousting Jim & Johnny as Trustees in 2017:
- in 2017-18, posted $371 million in revenue and $136 million in profit (just under Knicks) despite a 35 win team
- in 2018-19, posted $434 million in revenue and $147 million in profit (just under Knicks), signed LeBron James
- in 2019-20, won NBA Championship.
So she's at/near the top in making money AND at the top in winning. Even in crappy years, Lakers revenue and operating income rose at an astronomical rate. Criticize her all you want, but her watch has been successful. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".
Well...I was part of the CP3 to Lakers camp but I think we can lock this thread up. He isnt coming
I liked our odds more when the only other competitors were an equally asset-bereft MIL (who also reportedly wanted Oladipo more) and the Knicks (who were saying they wouldn't trade picks + why would CP3 want to go there?)
Phoenix is a major monkey wrench. Now i'm just hoping we can get Rubio somehow.
