I know that Austin as an RFA can get ~50mil for 4 years from us, while another team could offer ~100mil for 4 years.
If another team actually offers that, do we have to actually pay him that much to keep him?
Or, theoretically, if Austin said, "Hey Lake Show! I would love to stay here, and only need 75 mil to do that!" Can we do that?
well firstly no player would ever give up that money and no we can only offer him that 50mil. We could match a higher one from other team but it is not possible to do anything in the middle.

He’s already 25, so this 4 year deal will likely be the biggest contract he will ever get. He’d have to be crazy to give up 25 million.
50 million (after paying taxes) is enough to have 1.5 million in income for the rest of your life without ever spending down the principal. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I'm not entirely convinced there is a $100 million offer out there for Austin. But he is definitely worth more than what the Lakers can pay him. I'm guessing that they either give him some player friendly terms (basically an opt out and choice of length), or just tell him to let the market set his prices and they'll match. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
You offer him the max out of the gate and make it clear he's a priority. I believe teams will think twice about playing with the situtation.
I think they can also let him option out after two years.

I think that with the potential cap increase, the max Reaves can get will end up being a fair price. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
I want to keep Reaves but I also think 100m for 4 years is a overpay
It might be, but Reaves has proved to be worth the investment. We're adding stability to the roster for the midterm. Also, he's a vital piece that we obtained without having to give up anything in return. That's a good thing considering how bereft of talent our talent pool was not too long ago.
This is why when I look back at the AD trade, worth it. We picked up basically a lottery pick in 2021 to the team, and so far have a championship and a WCF appearance to show for it. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
