I know we have a 2022 draft thread in the draft lounge, but I believe we've been allowed to have a draft thread in the Lakers Lounge since it gets more eyes. Mods, if this is not OK, please let me know and remove.
The Lakers do not have a 1st or 2nd round pick.... yet.

The Clippers didn’t have a draft pick but used cash to draft Brandon Boston in the second round. That is something that the Lakers should be doing, using their revenue to improve the team. _________________ If you’ve got a dream, chase it, cause a dream won’t chase you back.
Did the Lakers convince Austin to not take a late 2nd round contract in order to be an Undrafted Free Agent? _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!!
Draft: Rayan Rupert
This is a good thing, it is a way you can find players like Austin Reaves, or Alex Caruso, undrafted players who end up NBA rotation level players.
And you could also find maybe a guy that you feel can be a useful player using a 2nd round pick, in which case you probably buy a 2nd round pick. There's also teams that sometimes want to get some cash in and trade away their 1st round pick.
I wasn't even thinking about "top junior or top senior," really, just guys who I think can play. It cuts out the idea of having ageism skewing my perception. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

What's the rationale for leaving Shaedon Sharpe out of the top 10? He could easily go #1 IMO.

Defense, lack of ability to read the backline offensively, total lack of playmaking tape, levels of ball handling, weak HS competition in terms of intensity.
He's more projection than what is shown on gametape. This isn't like LeBron or Kobe, both whom have shown A TON more on both ends of the floor against more difficult competition at younger ages. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Yes.
Kid had crazy confidence to accept it.
That's not quite right.
The Lakers told Austin's agent that they would offer him a two-way contract if no one drafted him.
On draft night, the Pistons told Reeves agent they were going to take Reeves with the 41st pick and offer him a two-way contract. It was a courtesy call since they weren't going to offer him a second-round contract.
Reeves preferred the Lakers and asked them not to draft him.
But it's not like Reeves turned down guaranteed money -- the Pistons offer was identical to our offer. And all he could do is request the Pistons not draft him -- he couldn't stop a team from drafting him.

The top ten or so 2nd rounders did get NBA contract, then it's down to two-way or make-good contracts. If a team is willing to offer standard NBA contract, even more than the minimum, with its cap space or exceptions, the team has an advantage to lure 2nd round prospects. If the team truly loves a player, the money could be spent this way instead of buying a pick.
If I can give smth to Lakers FO is scouting which is great. We have found so many great prospects and players through the years. I hope they can get some 2nd round pick somehow and draft someone good or at least serviceable player like Reaves. I am sure there is someone, just its their job to get that one pick.
