Thought he died years ago. RIP. Fair and mostly competent. Kinda gave an Earl Strom vibe, bold demeanor. No one was as bold as Earl, but Earl-like I said. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Not a Mills fight, but I peeped Foreman vs Ron Lyle from 76 a couple days ago for the first time. Fantastic one even for a casual. You must've seen that one in the day, Jode. I saw George stating that Ron was the only one who hit him so hard that what might've been fight ending punches from others actually didn't hurt. That's why I looked up the fight on YT. You rarely saw Big George even stumble after hellish abuse, much less fall flat on his face, so probably true. George cited rust after the fight, but he did sound a little embarrassed/sheepish afterwards. Ron's dead, but he was in the 2009 documentary called "Facing Ali" which was probably the best docu that I've seen on the sport. I think that'n's a vital sports doc in general in that it caught about 8-9 of Ali's opponents before they all died in pretty short order (Frazier chief among them). Lyle was of those boxers who retained his faculties to the end. Wonder what mechanism enables that in some while others are devastated later in life...cuz they all take a heap of abuse. No one escapes. Any rate, tangent. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Yeah, I saw the fight. I thought George was going to go in the 1st round. Ron hit him with a right that I felt. George staggered, I thought he was going to go down. The next 4 rounds were a battle of attrition, who would be the last man standing? It was George. Lyle look similarly gassed at the end of his L to Ali, but the ref stopped it after a flurry of punches that Lyle didn't defend against. Ali took nearly everyone to distance in the 70s, it seemed. Even Wepner. Saw his fight w/ Earnie Shavers recently, too. Pinpointed Earnie to death. Not as bad as what Frazier would get, but he made sure Shavers had to chase after him for 15 rounds. He must be the greatest, I suppose. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Ali didn't sit down on his punches. He had power but didn't rely on it. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.
