TJ surgery for Jacob deGrom. Texas is killing it without him, but yeah, just a head-scratcher that they gave him the term that they did. Perhaps they have insurance on the deal, but still, the term was crazy. Luckily for them, they have Eovaldi (another free agent signee) pitching like an ace. Who knows if that will last, however.

EDIT: They apparently don't have insurance on the deal. Holy hell.

Ken Rosenthal
@Ken_Rosenthal
With the news Jacob deGrom will undergo surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow, per
@Evan_P_Grant
, scroll down in my May 10 notes column for background on how it affects him contractually and the Rangers’ lack of insurance on his five-year, $185M deal.

That team is bad luck. From being 1 strike away from winning the world series in game 6 to this. Not to mention being in the bottom of the standings for awhile.

Dustin May is going to be next. I just have the same feeling.

- He never healed from his first one.
- Still pitching with pain.
- They also put him on the 60 day IL
- They're hoping a PRP injection does the trick (this feels like throwing darts at a board at this point).

Quote:
DeGrom hasn't pitched since April 28, when he exited early because of injury concerns for the second time in a span of three starts. He was moved to the 60-day injured list on Monday after he didn't improve "as quickly as we had hoped" after five bullpen sessions while trying to work his way back, according to Young.

Quote:
This will be the second Tommy John surgery of deGrom's career as he underwent the procedure in 2010 during his rookie year.

And of course, we already have Buehler attempting to come back from a second TJS.

Only pitchers I trust at this point is Kersh & Miller. Everyone else seems to be put together with plaster of paris

Our pitchers are all made out of glass seems like.

Kershaw will most likely go on IL some time this season.
Gonsolin seems like he is always on pitch count restriction and goes on IL.
Buehler with 2 TJS.
May with possible 2 TJS.

It's not just us, though. If you look around baseball, pitching injuries are up. It's an epidemic. Of course it's been trending this way, but it really seems like a rash of injuries have occurred this year at a much higher rate. You have to wonder (at least, I do) if the significantly reduced time between pitches has anything to do with these rash of injuries. Many of these guys are throwing with heavy velocity, max effort types just to try to get these hitters out, and now they have to do it with much greater frequency, one pitch after the other.

That is a very good point.

I also wonder if the ban of the sticky stuff have some to do with it as well. I'm assuming the pitchers would have to throw harder to get the spin rate up there. They started banning the stuff in 2021 right?

Looks like our new guys are coming along.

Martinez, Peralta, and Heyward are all having good games lately.

I lean more on the sticky stuff …. ask Buehler for his input on this

You're right. Now that I think about it, he was lights out before the all star game. After that he was mediocre.

Martinez goes deep with a solo shot. The guy is on fire!!!

I don't mind now that he is taking Will's DH spot on his non catching days.
