Kuzma vs. Hachimura

He just put up 30 against the Magic a few nights ago. I think this is a good get, specially if Lonnie leaves in FA, but we have to resign him to an extension to make up for all the 2nd round picks were giving.

we will have his bird rights, so unless Jeanie is being cheap again, we should be able to resign him (if he performs)

Definitely an over pay

We had 7 2nd round picks available to trade including 2 in the upcoming draft. As we saw with Christie, you can always just buy a 2nd. Flipping 3 of them for a lottery talent who was #9 a few years ago and fills a desperate need is a good trade.

Projected 2023/24 Offseason Laker Cap Sheet on a 136m Salary Cap
1. Bron 47.6m
2. AD 40.6m
3. Rui 18.8m (RFA caphold)
4. Damien (player option) 2.6m
5. MaxC 1.7m
6. 2023 1st pick swap w/NO ~3m (based on pick falling between #20-30)
7. Reaves RFA QO (“starter criteria”* met) 6.3m
8-12. 5 incomplete roster (IR) charges 5.5m
= 126.1m in team salary
= 9.9m in cap space (if we renounce all our UFAs)
= 11.4m in cap space (if Damien opts out and is renounced as an UFA)
= 36.8m in cap space (if we purge everyone except for Bron & AD)
*to meet “starter criteria” Austin would have to start in at least 41 regular season games or play at least 2000 minutes in total during the regular season; if he does not meet “starter criteria”, his caphold shrinks to 2.1m and that gives back roughly 4.2m in cap space that can be used towards the numbers above (ie 14.1m in cap space w/Damien opt in & 15.6m in cap space with Damien player opt out)

basically we will have no cap space this summer or very little with this trade. now i really hope they trade Russ to bring back more pieces. letting him expire doesn't help us much. same can be said for Pat Bev.

I had high hopes for the kid when he came into the league but his numbers are lower than Kyle's.

I'll be rooting for him, and hope he blossoms in LA, but I was looking forward to what we could have done with the 38/39 picks next year.

Another player that Russ is also familiar with, hopefully both of em can help on offense with Bron resting. We always lose our leads whenever Bron sits.

He makes a little over $1M more than Nunn and we are in the $3.25/$1 luxury tax bracket, so Jeannie is paying $4.25M more with this trade. Maybe Jeannie is actually willing to spend.

From just about everything I am reading, including Washington fans, this is a solid A+ trade for the Lakers.
Didn't give up a ton for a dude who just put up 30 the other day.

Same. Seems so unnecessary. This front office never learns

How did we get fleeced? Nunn sucks and 3 2nd rounds picks are mid-level value. I think the Lakers did great.

Hopefully 1 or 2 are protected.

we did get 2 2nd round picks from the Wizards in the Russ trade, so we really didn't give up much

Exactly - the reason to hoard 2nd rounders is for trades like this. Take a flyer on a guy who's young and has proven he's an NBA baller (4 straight double digit scoring seasons).

He WAS a #9 draft pick. He has underachieved since. Maybe it works out but this is far from a “good trade”.

This must close the door on any future Wizards trade prior the trade deadline, correct? Otherwise, my assumption would be that this deal would have been expanded.

Lakers received 3 second round picks when they traded for Russ, if those are the 3 they send out for Rui then they basically traded KCP, Kuz, Montrezl, and 1st for Russ & Rui.

I think he will definitely benefit from the change on scenery and the fact he has Lebron and Russ dishing to him for more open looks. His jumper is nice.

how did we got fleeced with this trade? we have 7 2nd round picks in the near future and 2 of them belong to the Wizards.

The overpay comments are funny. Though better of late Nunn does nothing. We have a bunch of 2nds. At worst we get longer.

Exactly. I swear Laker fans think all trades should be we get a solid player for peanuts. It doesn't work that way.
From what I am reading, this is a Pelinka A trade.

No. Woj reporting it’s only 2 picks now, which is ok

7 seconds mean a better chance at finding a gem or 2 late in the draft. Not every 2nd rounder is a bust especially when they are early 2nd round picks.

Also you’re forgetting you have to extend Rui now to make this worthwhile. Are we 100% certain we want to do that?

We just got a guy that doesn’t move the needle. Overpay or not it’s a meaningless trade Rob just orchestrated for fun with his fav organization again.

That's not how it works, folks.
If this dude is better than good, then not giving up 1st rounders sounds good to me. I don't care if it's 3 2nd rounders...

Exactly. Big W.

He’s long and has a flatter shot.

Seems athletic. Is he a poor defender?
