That scoring drought in the 1at half was a killer. SDSU played much better in the 2nd half but they needed to make up a 12 point deficit.

Damn they were doing good getting it down to 5 points. Then they started to rush their offense and made some bad mistakes.

Let the game finish. No point in fouling down 12.

The drought continues for mid majors in the NCAA mens basketball championship. The last time a mid major won was in 1990 when Tark led the UNLV Running Rebels to the championship over Duke.

Other than the first 5 minutes, UConn pretty much dictated the tempo of this game.

Yeah, their offense wasn't good this game. Their defense kept it close but without scoring points they were always behind.

So after all those upsets in this tournament, it turns out a basketball powerhouse ends up winning the tournament even if their seeding wasn't reflective of how good they were.

Yeah that was a bit of a disappointment.

Yeah it was a downer for the SDSU fans but it was a hell of a journey. I don't think anybody had them making the championship. This will definitely help their program as they broke out onto the national scene.

When UCLA last won its mens basketball national championship in 1995, UConn had a grand total of 0 championships. Since then they have won 5 in that span and put their stamp as one of the powers along with big name programs like Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, etc.

As far as SDSU goes, I don't think anybody could've imagined that their journey in this tournament would take them all the way to the championship game. They truly came out of nowhere and they will be talking about this in SDSU Aztecs athletic history. When you think of the mid majors that made a run in the tournament, George Mason, VCU, Wichita State, Loyola Chicago, few of them ever made it to the championship game. Only Gonzaga and Butler broke thru in recent history and of those 2 only Gonzaga truly ascended to being a basketball power where they could snag the elite recruits. That is probably where SDSU should aspire to if they want to compete for years to come.

It was a tremendous run and really exciting not just for Aztec Nation but also for San Diego County in general, people were really excited when the team beat Alabama and it became clear something was really happening.

When they advanced to the Final Four, it made everyone even more into it and then throw in the incredible buzzer beater vs Florida Atlantic and things were at a fever pitch.

When they pulled to within 5 points with 6 minutes left last night, I thought the dream was going to go on forever and that they would pull out the game and shock the world.

However, unfortunately it wasn't meant to be and we finished as national runners up which is amazing considering our expectations.

Very proud of all the young men on the team and our coaching staff and fans who proved themselves very much worthy at the highest level of college basketball They conducted themselves with not just great skill, but also class, humility and honor and are forever woven into Aztecs Lore and the City of San Diego Sports History.
