City keeps getting worse for lots of reasons, crime certainly one of the big ones. Very sad.

The last time I was in SF about a year ago it was pretty surreal. We were staying in financial district a few blocks from where this happened. Even midweek it was a total ghost town. It was eerie seeing all those once bustling skyscrapers and businesses virtually empty and silent. Hardly anyone on the street, stuff boarded up and totally tagged. Borderline apocalyptic looking.

It is sad to see what has happened to a once great city.

I was last there in October for a concert at the legendary Fillmore Auditorium and the area around the venue was an absolute mess....literally vermin everywhere, people staggering around in the streets, yelling and screaming constantly....not a good scene at all.

The city seems completely devoid of competent leadership and seemingly has no clue how to turn things around.

Not to make this political but the direction it was headed was clear as day when Gavin was mayor.

I spent a ton of my childhood up there, and a lot of time as a young adult. The disintegration was happening in real time with each visit.

The modern day Tale of Two Cities. Theres shiny new skyscrapers and multi story housing complexes occupied by wealth from the tech world while on the sidewalks theres homeless people and folks hopped up on all sorts of narcotics just trying to survive. Sooner or later these people will interact with tragic circumstances.

I use to love SF. Probably road trip up there once a year for vacation or fly up 1-2x for my work between 2010-2019.

Now I never want to go back

I heard that a former fire chief was attacked in the area too. This is just sad. When my family and I first came to this great country, San Francisco was our favorite city. My childhood dream was to live in the bay area someday.

It never felt random. You're the head of anything, you move different. They're not just gonna be out in the streets willy nilly in the middle of the night for somewthing like that to happen. Wow...

Using some language of Tony Soprano's in a Melfi session:

The homeless drug addicts "were framed up by da ramistam" and the crime rate is "proportional to the geh-hox-ah-gogin".

NYT: Tech Executive Was Left to ‘Slowly Die’ After Stabbing, Prosecutors Say

Quote:
The man accused of killing the tech executive Bob Lee on a secluded San Francisco street this month stabbed him three times with a kitchen knife, prosecutors said in court documents released on Friday.

The accused assailant, Nima Momeni, 38, had argued with Mr. Lee about whether anything “inappropriate” had happened between Mr. Lee, 43, and Mr. Momeni’s younger sister, prosecutors said, describing details of the police investigation in a motion to hold Mr. Momeni without bail.

Quote:
Prosecutors said that Mr. Momeni, a tech consultant and entrepreneur, stabbed Mr. Lee, who was instrumental in creating the mobile payment service Cash App, on April 4 with the four-inch blade of a kitchen knife, including once through the heart. He then threw the knife in a parking lot and raced away, leaving Mr. Lee, 43, “to slowly die,” the motion states.

Watching the videos of Lee staggering around trying to find help and collapsing weed horrifying. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be so alone snd knowing you were bleeding out and likely to die.

He tried to hail a passing car. The car didn't stop according to the video. I wonder if that driver has seen the video how do they feel knowing they possibly could have saved a life?

This was a planned murder. There's not a good reason to have a kitchen knife in your car:

Quote:
Momeni brought the knife with him from his home, which police said makes clear the murder was “planned and deliberate.”

.......................

Quote:
IT consultant Nima Momeni fatally stabbed CashApp founder Bob Lee through the heart after the pair fought about the suspect’s sister — and whether they were doing “anything inappropriate,” new court documents released Friday allege.

I feel bad for the sister. Her life just keeps on getting worse and worse.

Let's say something bad happened between Mr. Lee and Momeni's sister.

Now on top of that, her brother's about to go to jail for life. Just a horrible turn of events for her.

Nope, doesn't sound like anything that bad happened between Mr. Lee and the sister:

Quote:
Court documents also show Momeni's sister sent a text to Lee following the dispute.

"Just wanted to make sure your doing ok Cause [I] know nima came wayyyyyy down hard on you," she wrote, according to the documents.

Thank you for being such a classy man handling it with class," she added. "Love you Selfish pricks."

Oh, looks like the sister was married:

Quote:
Momeni and the slain tech entrepreneur had talked on the phone about his sister, Khazar Elyassnia, who was married to someone else. An unnamed witness told police that Momeni grilled Lee about his sister, asking if Elyassnia, who is married to a prominent plastic surgeon, was “doing drugs or anything inappropriate.”

Lee, 43, assured his alleged murderer that nothing out of bounds had happened.

Police didn’t elaborate on the relationship Lee had with Elyassnia, who was not named in the court documents.

The witness told police it was unclear to them if Lee and Elyassnia had an “intimate relationship.”

Lee had been estranged from his wife, with whom he shared two young girls, at the time of his murder and had moved from California to Florida with his dad.

https://nypost.com/2023/04/14/nima-momeni-allegedly-killed-cash-app-founder-bob-lee-over-fight-about-sister-court-docs/

Lee's final hours:

Quote:
Police paint a somewhat hazy picture of Lee’s final hours, saying he went between Elyassnia’s multi-million dollar high-rise apartment during the afternoon of April 3, where they drank along with a witness and someone else who lived in the apartment.

That apartment has since been searched by police.

The witness and Lee then headed back to the tech titan’s hotel room in San Francisco, which is when he spoke to Momeni on the phone.

The pair then went to Lee’s apartment also in San Francisco, where they hung out for a while.

At 12:30 a.m., Lee left his own apartment.

The witness stayed and never saw Lee again. Police did not explain the relationship between Lee and the witness, but said the two had known each other for around a decade.

The morning of April 4, the witness called Elyassnia and asked if Lee had gone over, unsure where he went.

The sister said yes, but only stayed “for a second” — adding that she fell asleep and doesn’t know where he went.

Video footage from the sister’s apartment confirms Lee went back to Elyassnia’s place in the early morning of April 4.

It also shows him and Momeni in an elevator together at 2:03 a.m. in the ritzy building before the two got into the alleged killer’s white BMW.

Not soon after, authorities said grainy video captured Lee and Momeni standing outside of the BMW for about five minutes in a deserted part of the wealthy Rincon Hills neighborhood.

That’s when it is believed Momeni stabbed Lee “three separate times, “prosecutors said in their motion to hold the suspect without bail.

“One of the wounds, showing a direct and clear intent to kill, penetrated the Victim’s heart,” Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai wrote.

Additional security cameras appear to show Lee walking away injured and Momeni walking near the area where the murder weapon was discovered, but the video isn’t clear enough to show their faces.

The white BMW then sped off at a high speed, police say, and Lee was left “to slowly die.”
