Glad to see him get a coaching job again
For jealousy’s sake, I’d prefer he doesn’t win a ring with PHX, but all things considered he was a scapegoat for RWB. Would really sting if KCP wins a ring this year, then Vogel does the year after _________________ #18 next... |

Or he might get more defense out of Ayton. And the team overall.
I agree he needs a couple of defensive minded players to round out the roster though.
I liked Vogel. Not surprised he got a solid HC job. Was disappointed he was made the scapegoat with the Lakers.
Not thrilled he is going to a Division rival but wish him well. |

Happy for him. Give him last years team after the trade and we might have made the finals. Although that Denver team looks like it has destiny on its side. |

If LBJ wasn't a Laker I'd root for Frank to beat him and get his revenge for being the scapegoat.
Unfortunately he is, and Frank is in the West so I hope he fails. |

A solid hire. The defensive principles is what will put them over the top. I don't think he can screw up the offense with KD, Book, Ayton and CP3. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

Oh noes. Don't take Phil tho! I'm not that happy for you lol
Phil Handy, development coach/assistant Jon Pastorek and video coordinator Dru Anthrop all were retained after Vogel’s dismissal and are obviously names to watch as Vogel assembles his staff.

I remember reading opinions a few years ago that Monty Williams is the guy the Lakers should have hired, but they didn't want to give a long contract, and they really missed out.
Not to demean Monty Williams - he may be a very good coach - but the guy the Lakers hired did win a chip, and now Phoenix has fired Williams and replaced him with Vogel. How the tables have turned.
Good luck to Coach Vogel. |

Agree. In regard to Ayton it seems like he wants out. That could have been a Monty thing though. I wonder if he would look at the pacers for bodies. If he added Myles and buddy that would help them. Ayton imho has value. _________________ Kobe.

Those were exactly my thoughts when I saw news of PHX hiring Vogel. Very ironic twist of events.
I don't think Vogel got a fair shake with the fallout from the Westbrook fiasco. I however will not be rooting for him (i.e. the Suns) to win anything. Congrats to him on getting another gig with a legit team, though! |

Well there goes the dreams of Celtics fans wanting him to be Joe’s assistant. I like Frank personally but how is he a better option than Monty? |

I hope Frank achieves the same success Mike did. If he does I'll be looking sideways at Bron and Jeanie. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Definitely more of a defensive mind but maybe that's what they need to complement their firepower on offense. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit) |

Good for Frank.
The philosophy on offense will be the same as was his philosophy here: let the two superstars do whatever the hell they want. Just focus on making the defense good.
Getting a good offensive assistant is a MUST with him. _________________ Lakers Offseason Goal:

- Sign Jonas Valanciunas or Nicolas Claxton

Probably not much of a difference in overall impact. This definitely isn't a jump from Del Harris/Kurt Rambis to Phil Jackson.
What I think factors into this is the change in ownership. It feels pretty rare in pro sports for there to be an ownership change but not see any turnover in coach/front office leadership shortly thereafter.
The reality is that coaching turnover in the NBA is quite high these days. Of the head coaches during this season, only Pop and Spoelstra have been there longer than 10 years. Kerr is at 9 years and Malone 8. The next 4 longest tenured coaches after them are now out of those positions - Budenholzer, Casey, Nurse, Monty. Taylor Jenkins is currently the 5th longest-tenured coach now at just 4 years...
I'm seriously baffled at the contract DET gave Monty. Good for him, but that's (bleep) crazy. |

Well Ayton and Monty had a bit of a feud and he probably tuned him out. So it didn't matter how good of a coach he might be. When start losing certain players you lose command of the locker room. Easier to fire a coach than trading a player. |

This is actually kinda scary... We know Vogel doesn't mess up when he has the pieces. He's got KD and Booker, if he gets Ayton on the same page, watch out. Still can't believe what we did to this man. Dismantled his championship roster, blamed him for Westbrook not fitting in, then fired him. Then ultimately blamed Westbrook for Westbrook. LOL! Thinking back, do you know how clownish, how amateurish that looks? You said Vogel was the problem! So you fired him, then the very next year, you said well maybe Westbrook is the problem after all. |

I agree. The FO looks like a bunch of clowns.
I give the FO credit for getting the right players this year.
But I think that their decision to fire Vogel will potentially bite them in the ass.
What is sad that when we look back at this period where the Lakers had both AD and Lebron, it will be a disappointment if they do not win another championship. What is even more pathetic is that we only made only one finals.
This will be an indictment on the FO. |

congrats to Vogel, I would take him over our current coach with the defensive potential we have.
He might struggle with the Suns though unless they get some defensive players. His offense will always be easy to stop but they have some great iso players...
We had
Caruso/KCP/Avery Bradley (was good defensively that year)/Danny Green/Lebron/AD/Dwight/Rondo as defensive players. Suns don't have that. And AD + Lebron offensively > Booker/KD |
