I wonder why he didn’t want to go to Saudi Arabia and make hundreds of millions.

It feels weird how he had the highlight of his career just several months ago in winning the World Cup, and now his csreer is effectively over.

Club ownership and marketing potential with Apple+.
An MLS club is worth a lot of money now and potential for even more in the future.

He passed up 2 yrs $1B

Inter Miami can outbid 2 years / $1B?

Sources close to Al Hilal deny any new, improved proposal to Leo Messi. It’s still the same bid on the table revealed back in April — close to €1B package salary x two years. 🇸🇦🇦🇷 #AlHilal

Inter Miami presented their bid last week.

Still waiting for Messi’s final decision.

Maybe he didn't want to deal with the PR nightmare of going over to Saudi Arabia to play?
Also the MLS is growing right now. His ownership share of a club like Miami will only increase in value long after he decides to stop playing.

he doesn't want to chase CR7 and Benzama. if those two still on european clubs, i have no doubt Messi will take Saudi's money and be the pioneer so to speak.

Lionel Messi's move to Inter Miami sends ticket prices soaring over 1,000%

Messi's first game with the team could reportedly be on July 21 when Inter Miami hosts Cruz Azul in its Leagues Cup opener in Fort Lauderdale.

The lowest price for a ticket for that game on Tuesday was a mere $29 but on Wednesday the price rocketed to $329 -- a 1,034% jump -- according to TickPick.

Actually he only owns 10%. I thought he owned more.

His share of the team was bought for $25 million, so if its 10% and the team is worth $1 billion, his investment is now worth $100 million.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the games vs Miami are sky high now.

What a gigantic get for MLS. Messi may not be as good as he was during his Barcelona heyday, but he's still fantastic, and he is literally THE biggest sports star in the world. It's huge. So much more than when Beckham joined the Galaxy.

I think the Saudi deal was the early favorite. But Miami is closer to home and many of his fans can just take a short flight from anywhere in Latin America to go see him play now.

A Major League Soccer team is worth half of what Ballmer paid for the Clippers?

Apparently. It was valued between $600M-$650M in 2021 and with Messi they’re expected to be worth $1B in 2024, the first MLS team to reach that number.

Why would Messi drive up the price when it's only a 2 yr deal?

I'm just thinking about it from the buyer's point of view. They pay $1B for the team, Messi leaves in 2 years, what happens to the value of the team now?

I don’t know how they get these numbers, and maybe the value falls when he leaves. Forbes valued LAFC at $1B and Galaxy at $925M. So they’re saying Messi makes them the most valuable. I don’t know how these teams are worth so much.

The cheapest assigned seat for the Miami @LAFC game is $723 with fees on StubHub. Should we do an LG meet-up? (Kidding)

Yeah, it'd be interesting. No way to find out. But, honestly, I just don't understand how Messi playing for a team for 2 yrs drives up the price so much.

I've never understood that.

I mean, how much is TB worth now vs. before Brady joined? They did win a SB. They did get a ton of exposure. But he's gone now, how much are they worth now?

What would a prospective buyer be paying for?

I remember when they first started the MLS and the expansion Miami team they had folded. We are a long way from those days. For the owners that stuck thru the MLS during the early days their teams are now worth quite a lot as the young people have embraced soccer culture.

Theres no guarantees on any of those games. My guess is speculators are driving up the prices.

That was the value in 2014. The value is much higher now considering the Suns reset the market.
According to this article the Clippers are closing in on 4 billion.

They’re saying he could start in July but maybe not until August.

And Ballmer paid a big premium. Sports franchises usually sell for more than they are thought to be worth at the time. I think Cuban said he thought the dodgers were worth around $1B when the league sold it. They got bid up to $2B or something like that.
