Pretty sure he’s promised something to opt in this early, risking being traded with the picks… my guess is Pelinka told him they’ll try to move Rui and give C.Wood that role, Rui+JHS+3FRPs matches Markannen+tpMLE
He’s promised $3 mil.
He earned the $3m if u wanna play word game, the contract was signed with PO not TO
The $3M is in exchange for exclusive use of his services next year (whatever they turn out to be). So, he hasn't earned the money yet because he hasn't provided his services yet.

While that is correct, governator is correct that the team gave him the promise of coming back for $3 mil. He didn’t do anything in year 1 here to change that, a vet min is his market. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
In case we need a reminder of how productive Wood was before coming here out of shape and under utilized.

I bumped this thread b/c I believe Wood can be a big piece for this team if he comes into camp in shape. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' No other team wanted him. Low iq, low motor, we need to start removing these kinds of players and players in general who wouldn’t fit on a heat type team. Subtract and replenish. Bron got his guy so he can’t whine about a shadow rebuild while he and his son get to play together _________________ Dave McMenamin on the Lebron ERA: "Underwhelming"

He’s here and was a slug. He wanted no part of that over there. And if he lands there, just like everyone else, they will be looking to move him. Love that he’s from here. _________________ Dave McMenamin on the Lebron ERA: "Underwhelming"
I'm actually interested in what Wood can do next season as well. One issue about Ham is I felt he was never adaptable in taking advantage of his players' strengths and weaknesses. So you see Hayes and Wood playing drop when they are better at hedging and switching. The Lakers did use Wood as a pick and pop big but some interesting sets to get him deep seals would be good too.
There's a world where Wood actually thrives under Redick, who understands how to unlock Wood's talents. There's also a more likely world where Wood continues to warm the bench. I think I've hit dcarter's POV where we should view him as a 4 rather than a 5 in terms of lineup. The LeBron/Wood/AD lineups were fantastic. I'd rather have another 5 (like Goga) who can actually hold the fort down on defense when AD is on the bench.
Based on production from last year, expectations on contributions from Wood has to be thought of as a bonus if it happens, it shouldn’t be part of the initial plan as one of the top 8 players. I like having Wood as insurance and glad he opted in. As of now tho the Lakers have half of a playoff rotation in AD/Rui/Vando/AR. Hopefully LBJ and Dlo(or a suitable replacement) make 6. That means at least 2 more quality rotation players should be added for a legitimate ship commitment. Tobias Harris? Drummond? Also need to add an upgrade in the backcourt.
AD/Drummond
Rui
LBJ/Harris
AR/Vando(out of position?)
Dlo(or replacement) _________________ When reasonably possible, I expect the Lakers to go after a ship like it can’t be denied. I haven’t seen a completely committed effort by the GM for the last 2 off seasons nor the last 2 trade deadlines. What is going on?
If they don’t bring in another big I’m guessing he’ll get the initial nod over Hayes since Redick wants to get up more threes and Wood is a better rebounder.
This team and the subsequent PR reminds me of that Monty Python sketch: _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.
