LFG!!!!!!

He’s not a prime Pau Gasol, but we can definitely use his offensive spark and rebounding!

Since few actually read the injury thread ...

Ham says Christian Wood is still going through his rehab process after undergoing knee surgery in February and “still have a couple boxes to check” before LAL would consider using him against the Nuggets

https://x.com/mcten/status/1782118729565749442?s=46&t=6-sxM4NpvzeWdNMn3aVCqg

So we'll see what that means and if Ham actually uses him

it's nice to have CW's rebounding back. but he won't help much on Jokic as he's another one of those skinny centers. but he should be more affective than Hayes.

Wood has been misused by Ham with the bench.

We have two 15-18 ppg scorers with our bench when Wood is healthy.

Dinwiddie, and Wood. Both proven to be capable scorers, neither depended on to be a 6th man scorer despite the fact they'd put us over the top in that regard.

When you look at the TALENT of the bench

Gabe Vincent
Spencer Dinwiddie
Taurean Prince
Jarred Vanderbilt
Christian Wood/ Jaxson Hayes

They SHOULDN'T be putting up 2-5 points a game off the bench even IF Prince is having an off night. You got two 20+ ppg scorers on the bench in Wood and Dinwiddie, and Dinwiddie has SHOWN when he had to start and was given the green light that he can light it up in our offense.

Ham asking Dinwiddie to stand in a corner as opposed to LOOK FOR HIS SHOT, PRESSURE THE DEFENSE and SCORE.. is the biggest waste of Dinwiddie's role that Ham has done for any of the role players.

Any other coach would ask Wood and Dinwiddie to look for their shot and carry our bench scoring. Not Ham, and that's one of his biggest mistakes.

When you gave bigger offensive roles to Cam Reddish and Prince than you did Wood or Dinwiddie.. that's on the coach.

I have to agree with MJST on Dinwiddie and Wood. They are obvious examples of Ham not being able to adjust to the talent available on the roster.

Dinwiddie had averaged between 12.6 and 20.6 points in eaach of the past 5 seasons. He averaged 17.3 points last season. He's averaging 6.8 points per game on 39.7% shooting. They have turned him into a spot up three point shooter, that isn't his game.

Christian Wood averaged between 13.1 and 21 points per game in each of the previous four seasons. He averaged 16.6 last season, while shooting 51.5% from the field and 37.6% from three. He afveraged 6.9 points this season, and shot by far his lowest three point percentage since his G-League stint in 2017-2018.

Those guys are proven scorers. Ham hasn't run anything for them. Or ever really carved them a meaningful role.

For all intents and purposes with Christian Wood, Spencer Dinwiddie, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince coming off our bench we SHOULD have had the best bench in the league allowing LeBron, etc to rest and relax more.

You give this bench to any other coach in the league that allows Dinwiddie and Wood to go to work?

Bench:
Gabe Vincent
Spencer Dinwiddie
Taurean Prince
Christian Wood
Jaxson Hayes

Two 15-20 ppg scorers in Dinwiddie and Wood, a spot up three point shooter in Prince, a pick and roll lob threat in Hayes, Vincent who showed in the Playoffs he can go off offensively...

I'm not even throwing in Vando because he's been hurt all year but

Gabe Vincent
Spencer Dinwiddie
Taurean Prince / Max Christie
Jarred Vanderbilt
Christian Wood / Jaxson Hayes

That SHOULD be, one of if not the best bench in the league.

The fact we'd go games with the bench scoring in single digits, is a fault of Ham... give this roster and this bench to Spo??? We're blowing teams out and LeBron is resting many 4th quarters. Just having Wood and Dinwiddie coming off your bench alone should be enough to keep and hold onto leagues offensively, throw in Vincent and Prince to the mix??? Yeah... our bench underperforming is on Ham.. we have the talent to be a Top 3 bench in the league. It should be one of our greatest weapons. But Ham isn't utilizing it as such. If he put the ball in Dinwiddie's hands and said "run the second unit and score" he wouldn't have to play DLO, Bron, AD a bunch of minutes with the bench all the time and running 3 guard lineups.

We needed Dinwiddie to do that when DLO was out, there's NO REASON we shouldn't be able to put both DLO and Reaves on the bench for rest and tell Spencer "Go do your thing" as a Super 6th man.

When Dinwiddie says he does like to score but that's not the role the team needs him for, THAT comes from the Coach... and 6th man scoring is ABSOLUTELY the role the team needs him for! Any other strategy from Ham on him is the wrong one if it doesn't START with "6th man scorer". Prince and freaking Reddish got iso plays drawn up for them by Ham but Wood and Dinwiddie don't!?!?!?!

Regarding the recent comments on Vincent/Dinwiddie/Wood I have to agree. I’ve been pretty hard on those guys putting up ZERO points and/or being a disappointment but all of them are proven scorers and it’s not likely that all three forgot how to do score. It’s most likely poor gameplan and ineffective coaching schemes.

The thing with wood is he showed he can rebound and also showed effort when guarding KD

Lakers F/C Christian Wood is planning to return to action in Game 3 vs. the Denver Nuggets on Thursday in LA, sources tell
@TheAthletic

@Stadium
. A key boost to Lakers frontcourt. Wood, out since Feb. 14 due to knee injury, has averaged 7 points and 5.1 rebounds this season.

Vando and Wood returning for Game 3 would have felt a lot better if we'd won Game 2.

But alas we didn't. We have to defend home court now and win the next 2 games. If Wood is 100% we could really use his rebounding, especially with Hachimura being passive again.

What we REALLY need is for Darvin Ham to realize he's Christian Wood and we should have been using him offensively all year.

Christian Wood getting shots up. Ruled out for Game 3, unknown about Game 4.

He has a player option. Hard to see him getting more than a minimum again.

Hope he opts in, incase Pelinka moving Rui, same with Max for AR

Was expecting so much more from him. Part of it was him coming into camp clearly out of shape. Other part was Ham clearly not optimizing his offensive talents. This was a guy that averaged 17,18, and 21 his previous 3 years and I cant remember one game where he had 17 or more. That's insane.

Hopefully he comes back motivated. He can most definitely help this team win ball games. Hoped to see the Ad/Wood/LeBron line up more.

Sounds like Wood's opting in.

I expect Wood/Hayes/Reddish to all opt-in... Unless another team is willing to promise them more playing time or pay them more.

I'd expect that.

Hopefully the next Coach actually recognizes the talent we'd have in Wood and prioritize him with the bench scoring. Ham barely utilizing scorers like Wood, Dinwiddie and Vincent but giving Prince and Reddish the green light constantly will always be the most befuddling thing.

I guess man, if we get 2022-23 Wood not the imposter from this season 2023-24. I don’t mind having Wood as an injury insurance long shot if the plan is not expecting him to be in an initial 8 man rotation.

The Lakers need 8 players better than Hayes/Wood/CamR/MaxC/Vincent. Right now they only have 6 in AD/Rui/LBJ/AR/Dlo + Vando. They need a center and a guard that’s both better than the current reserves.

Wood was outplaying Rui and Hayes for a good stretch of the season because hes a willing and above average rebounder. Anytime you can get someone on minimum like that you keep. Those little signings on the margins are a huge deal.

That depends on the Coach and if that Coach understands they have Christian freaking Wood willing to come off the bench. Both Wood and Rui should be owning every bench in the league.

Verdict still out on Gabe because of injuries… Didn’t really get a chance to get comfortable with the team. I think bringing in Dinwiddie also hurt him and kind of got lost in all guard rotation.

MaxC will be interesting to see if he takes that jump next season if we bring him back.
