LA Clippers 83 LA Lakers 100

BoxScore
After two straight losses and in a tie for the 7th seed for the playoffs, the Lakers needed as many wins out of their five remaining games as they can get. And they got a big one tonight by beating the 5th seeded Clippers.
In the 1st quarter they were lead by Lamar Odom (7pts, 3reb) and new starter Luke Walton (6pts, 4reb). The Clippers lead by 4, getting all but 2 of their points from Sam Cassell and Elton Brand. Kobe Bryant then took over in the 2nd with 15 points as the Lakers put together a 14-1 run. But they gave some back and only lead by 5 at the half.
After a 9-3 Lakers run early in the 3rd quarter, the Clippers tied the game with a 13-4 run of their own. The Lakers managed to salvage a four point lead behind Luke (7pts) and Lamar (6pts, 6reb) again. Kobe once again took over in the final period with 17 points as they finished the game with a statement making 20-6 run.
The teams stats were fairly even. The Lakers shot 45% (37-82) while the Clippers shot 43% (34-79), and both shot 75% from the line. The Lakers lead by 2 in both rebounds (43-41) and assists (20-18). The only noticeble difference was the Lakers hitting 8-29 (28%) 3-pointers while the Clippers hit just 3-16 (19%). But I think the key was containing Cassell and particularly Brand after the 1st quarter.
Lamar had a very good game against his original team with 23 points on 9-17 shooting, 15 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kobe finished with 38 points while hitting 14-27 shots, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Luke celebrated his start with 13 points on 6-10 shots and 7 rebounds. Kwame Brown added 9 points and 8 rebounds, and Smush Parker 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists. The only scoring off the bench was 9 by Brian Cook.

I didn't see the game so i appreciated the update.
Looks like we won in the paint - how did we slow down Brand AND their 3pt shots?
Did Kwame cover Kaman, leaving Luke to cover Elton?
Looks like Sasha did a good job on Cassell & Livingston.
Our D must have been good - we only gave Brand & Cassell 7 foul shots combined!!!! |

Kwame and LO guarded Brand. He doesn't get involved well when he doesn't get the ball like he used to.
Same couldn't keep up and Livingston looked faulty.
We put Kaman out with his 3rd foul early in the 3rd and he never recovered. We swamed their bigs and they could not handle the doubles.
Peace
Great write up. _________________ Stop crying and start doing.

I'll give the lakers credit for evening the season series. But no C-mag and the clippers obviously didnt play their best ball. _________________ A Clipper/Laker Fan
