My turn:

BISTRO 75 @ Century City - pretty damn good burger
THE COUNTER @ Santa Monica
GRAND LUX CAFE @ Beverly Center/Las Vegas - Venetian - the "Max Burger" is truly impressive.
IN-N-OUT
FATBURGER - King Burger or even their Turkey burgers
JACK-IN-THE-BOX Sirloin Burger - I tried this by word of mouth too, and damn that thing is good
TOMMY's - I concur with the Chili comment...looks disgusting but DAMN GOOD

I've tried FUDDRUCKERS on several occasions, even finishing the 1lb-er on a bet, but I can't say that this is really a great burger.

I'd like to try FATHER'S OFFICE, as I've heard a lot about this place...might even hit it up this week

I've also read that that looney John Travolta loves to eat the Kobe beef burger or whatever at some hotel in Beverly Hills (Four Seasons). Apparently he's a huge burger nut (I think we can all tell, by the looks of him). I wouldn't mind trying a Kobe Beef burger. Curious as to how different that would be. Definitely not willing to pay for one

That's all I can think of right now, and damn am I hungry!

I can somewhat concur because in Houston, Wendy's is fandamntastic and in L.A., on a good day or at a good location, Wendy's will be good.

I like Wendy's, in L.A. or otherwise. But if you want a good burger in L.A., there are much better choices. Outside of that sirloin thing, Jack in the Box and the rest of the big chains are pretty far down the list too.

I will say this about Wendy's: No one can compete with their spicy chicken sandwich. It can't be (bleep) with.

For real, the commercials are always on TV but I have no idea on hell where they are

Same with Wendy's except I think the closest one is on the way to Big Bear.

The Royal Red Robin Burger at the original Red Robin in Seattle's U-district is awsome. It spawned the chain, and then of course chains do what they do...

Love the six-dollar burger at Carl's Junior.

In Spokane, we have a place called The Onion that makes a mean burger.

We also have a place called Dick's that serves a genuine 50's style grease bomb callled the wammy. Not sure if I like it for the taste, or just because it takes me back to being a teenager, out cruising and getting a Burger at Dick's.

The Red Robin at the South Bay Galleria is fantastic.

There was this little burger joint I used to go to on the corner of Santa Monica and Sepulveda called Hubba's. Their burgers were HUGE, ridiculous.

You mean you can't find a Wendy's in the valley? ...Are you sure you've been actually looking?

And the ONLY Sonic in SoCal is here:

Sonic Drive-in
1632 Lemon Street
Anaheim, CA 92801
(714) 992-4500

Yeah, there are 4 or 5 just in Van Nuys. The closest to Studio City is probably the one in Burbank. There's one on Sunset and La Brea. There's one on Sherman Way in No. Hollywood.

I'd recommend the Turkey burger with cheese.

Now if want a burger that will take about 5 years off your life: the Hubba's Surprise ==double meat, double cheese, a mess of pastrami and fries. Or the Hubba Combo==meat, hot dog link, cheese..whole mess of fries. I think my poor arteries are still paying for that experience years later. But that was one the best damn burgers I've ever had.

Wait! You're saying they put the fries ON the burger along with the other stuff you mentioned?

But yeah, I will try the Hubba Surprise for damn sure!

Pink's has something similiar to that to which I call The Cardiac Dream - pastrami, chili, cheese, onions, and 2 hot dogs all rolled up into a burrito called the Pastrami Burrito Dog. My heartbeat skips - literally - everytime I eat one!

Has anyone been to Big Boy's? I heard they weren't good.

Where is Y Not Burger? What would you recommend?

And are you talking about the restaraunt Big Boy's?

Y Not Burger is in Torrance on Sepulveda, I think.

I'm not sure about Big Boy's, they just built one here a couple of months ago. The logo is some sort of cartoon guy holding a tray.

Here's there website: http://www.bigboy.com/

Yeah, it's the same Big Boy's...It used to be called Bob's Big Boy back in the day. They've been around for a few decades.

It's not really like In & Out, but they have these small burgers. They're ok. A bit overhyped and overrated to me.

I'm actually a little disconcerted that you've never heard of Bob's Big Boy. It's basically like an older-style diner/coffee shop. The food is basic diner food: burgers, sandwiches, soup, shakes, coffee. The one in Burbank/Toluca Lake has a drive-up window. Back in the day, it used to be a drive-in, carhop type place. The burgers and fries are still good. Their shakes are really good. I wouldn't bother with anything else.

White Castle is disgusting. Little steamed, greasy pieces of crap. Comparing White Castle to In N Out is like comparing your grandma's homemade apple pie to a fart sandwich with snot sauce.

I grew up on White Castle burgers and they are nothing like In-N-Out.

White Castle started in the 1920s became big during the Great Depression because they were the cheapest burger you could buy ($0.05 at the time). They mixed cereal grain with the meat, made the patties and buns squares, and began tak ing five little triangle holes out of the flat square burger, which they said allowed the meat to cook more evenly without having to turn it over, and also just so happened to allow them to use a little less meat per pattie.

They were among the first restaurants to promote carry out dining, as well. And when I was a kid (and the burgers then were selling for 15 cents), every White Castle had an ongoing contest: if you could eat more burgers than anyone else had ever eaten in one sitting at that particular location, you got your meal free of charge. (Of course if you didn't beat the record, then you had to pay for all the burgers you'd eaten.)

It's not a great burger, but it has a unique flavor and people who grow up on them will always enjoy their aroma and taste, while people who've never had them before will wonder why anyone would want one.

They are closer to McDonald's than any other burger I can think of, if you want to compare them to a burger chain from the west. (And they sold over a billion burgers long before McDonald's ever did).
