I never understood all the hype about Saving Private Ryan.

Blade Runner is not so much overrated as it is dated. I never saw it when it came out since I wasn't yet born. I saw it for the first time in 90s, and it looked good. These days, it just looks dated.

Gone with the Wind is overrated today but back in 1939 when it was released?

Yeah SPR gets hoopla for reasons I don't understand. I think it's a good movie just not great. Not a huge fan of Spielberg really. Especially in recent years.

Blade Runner is terrible top to bottom. That's probably the #1 movie of all time that people love that I don't get. zzzZZZZ.

Re SPR, ask WWII (and especially D-Day) vets why they like it so much...

the opening sequence of SPR is a mark of undeniable skill but the resb of the film can't hold up to it. The whole wad is shot in the first 15 minutes.

Titanic is the most overrated piece of crap in history. It's not even crap. It's diarrhea.

Titanic is a pretty amazing achievement. Strongly disagree.

What's so amazing about Titanic?

The production values. That was a mammoth undertaking to shoot that movie. And it's pulled off seamlessly. You big tough guys probably scoff at the love story but it's very well done. If you're talking about epic motion pictures it's far up on the list.

Well, Ocho, by those same standards, Gone With the Wind would have to be looked at in the same light since it's production values were top for it's day, back in 1939, no?

I'm not a fan of the film at all, but for it's day, I'm sure it deserved all the hype.

for the time yes but it doesn't really hold up i don't think. I understand the comparison between Titanic and GWTW, i just think Titanic is a better film. not to mention GWTW is 4 freaking hours. i don't mind a long movie but GWTW puts me to sleep. Titanic is 3hrs 17 minutes but it flies by.

In that sense, you're right, it's not a very interesting film. I haven't yet been able to sit though GWTW. Titanic is definitely entertaining, even though it doesn't rank too high on my list when it comes to film aesthetics.

Well, I can understand why they like it, as they've had personal experiences that relate directly to the backdrop. In this case WWII.

Pulp Fiction should not be on this list, as Goodfellas shouldn't either

If any Tarentino film is overrated; it's Kill Bill. Pulp Fiction is a classic. As far as Goodfellas, I have no idea what's the deal with calling it overrated... it's up there with Donnie Brasco and Casino.

It's better then Brasco, but not Casino. Casino is one of my favorites...

I'm surprised that Citizen Kane hasn't been mentioned with all the unappreciation of good cinema.

By far Blair Witch Project was overrated. Pretty much any movie with a shaky camera that gives you motion sickness sucks because of that effect.

i think Blair Witch is very well done. the shaky camera is precisely one of the main reasons why the film is effective. i remember being very scared and impacted by that film watching it in the theater. of course it has no repeat value...but it's not intended to.

At first it sounded like a cool concept and was effective, but it got real annoying when I started feeling like puking than watching. Of course, it probably didn't help that my friend insisted we watch it near the front of the theater.

yeah i can see why being at the front of the theater would be a little queasy.

i don't really get motion sickness. i remember seeing Cloverfield and they were handing out barf bags as we walked in but thought it was no big deal. Same with Blair Witch. Still...a movie that effective made with such a low budget is remarkable. It was quite a hit. Made $140M and cost only $60,000. Scared me like few films have.

I really cannot imagine watching the original screening of the movie at Sundance which I read was many, many, hours long.

I was actually pretty drawn into the movie as well... I remember driving home and looking at the trees wondering if something was out there.

There's something about the shaky camera thing that I like. I thought Cloverfield took this concept to another level.
