Hey all,
I’ll say this up front – I’m exhausted! I was supposed to have a partner helping with coverage but I ended up going solo. So here it is – my breakdown of all seven games in Las Vegas on Saturday.
In Vegas: Day Nine Wrap
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9532
Some highlights include Jerryd Bayless scoring 36 – 17 in the fourth – and flat out DOMINATING – this kid is really good.
Also – Joey Dorsey got ejected – from a game he wasn’t EVEN IN.
Some fun finishes – including LeBron James watching courtside as his Cavaliers lose to the Hornets at the buzzer on a put back by Larry Owens!
Larry who? Sorry LBJ.
I’m sorry to say the Laker game was perhaps the dullest of the bunch – LA just got beat outright by the Nuggets and Coby Karl had a tough shooting night.
Thanks

what did Dorsey do? _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though." |

Dorsey has been good too. Had 22 and 14 in 1 game and 8 and 13 in another shooting about 80% from the floor. |

Yes Jerryd Bayless is a very good, very exciting player. He carried his high school team (St. Mary's) to the 5A State Championship game (AZ) and when I say carried, yeah, he was the only guy with any talent on that team. They couldn't get past Mountain View (my daughter's school), though, who won their 3rd championship in a row. Threepeat!
He's a very fun player to watch, very athletic. He will do very well in Portland. He'll fit right in with their attitude and system. He always plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Reminds me of a cross between Gilbert Arenas (shooting ability) and Kobe (athleticism). Too bad he's kinda small. It'll be interesting to see how he does vs NBA level competition. When I think of watching Jerryd play, the word 'Electric' is what comes to mind. _________________ “I’m just a basketball player, you know? Just put me where you need me.” -Lamar Odom

Bayless sounds like on heck of a competitor. Damn Portland is stacking them up aren't they? _________________ Stop crying and start doing.

Love has also been outstanding and will get MVP consideration, as well. |

Kevin Pritchard good sir. Serious if I was GM of any other team and Pritchard was on the other line... I'd hang up right away. |

I am kind of surprised by the play of Kevin Love. He is playing better than expected. The speed of the game is going to be a huge adjustment for him. I think his major advantage is his basketball IQ. _________________ let there be light,

I think in the end, Portland will have to choose between Bayless and Roy if they want to maximize the team's potential. I'd stick with Roy and trade Bayless for a pure PG (go for Deron Williams?). _________________ I get up for everybody. If it were just Bayless and Roy, then I wouldn't see a problem. Factor in trying to involve guys like Oden, Aldridge and Webster, I don't see two dominant perimeter scorers as the best thing. They'd be better suited with playmaker who can get easy buckets for Oden and Aldridge. _________________ I get up for everybody. actually the nuggets have issues because of defense - and the Blazers have the potential to be good defensively - far better than the Nuggets ever were _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

While the Nuggets score alot of points, they aren't an efficient offense. Too much iso/black hole scoring. It's easily shut down by any decent defensive team as we saw in the playoffs, because they're scoring from just individual talent alone. This is the problem the Blazers can face from a Bayless/Roy pairing.
As for defense, it's more than just talent. Nuggets have Camby, and even if Oden can put up 14 rpg and 4 bpg (which i doubt), they can still suck defensively. _________________ I get up for everybody. I played my son today in the backyard and I didn't let him score." - Ron Artest |

I didn't know Brandon Roy was known as a black hole? I think you're exaggerating. McMillan seems to be able to get his players to buy into the system and run it pretty unselfishly. Bayless is known as a bit of a black hole, though. But he's also a team guy and the teams he's been on haven't had a lot of talent so, like Kobe of the last few years, he takes on most of the scoring load. We'll see. One thing is for sure: Portland has a ton of talent and will be a formidable opponent this season, imo. _________________ “I’m just a basketball player, you know?
