What is the best war movie/TV show/series you have watched? Not necessarily a documentary style movie or show, but one with actors and a script. If you have a documentary that beats all others, let us know.
M*A*S*H?
Saving Private Ryan?
Band of Brothers?
The Green Berets?
300? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Depends if you mean modern stuff (Generation Kill was an excellent series but a lot of people thought it was rather slow paced which I completely disagree with - the dialogue and feel of the story was just excellent), Vietnam era (I can't think of any right off the top of my head that really stood out to me other than Platoon), WWII (Definitely BoB - it was like an 8 hour SPR), etc.
As far as medieval type things... I just enjoy the swordplay. 300 was good. Hero, though I'm certain this isn't the kind of movie you're referring to, had excellent choreography and visuals. Still, if we're going in this whole line... I suppose you can count Rome which covers Julius Caesar down to Augustus Caesar. Though I suppose the wars itself weren't the focus so much as the political intrigue behind them. _________________ "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

Saving Private Ryan's opening scene was just epic .......
The misses and I won some KOST ticket to the movie and I thought it was gonna be some love movie or some crap ....... when I saw dude vomit on the side of the U-boat and the bullet flew, I was hooked.
Apocalypse Now and I loved "The Boys of Company C" for some reason ...
Good Morning Vietnam was cool too |

Oh damnit, how could I forget Apocalypse Now? Or Full Metal Jacket for that matter. _________________ "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

Missing In Action 3 FTW!!!!
J/K... Black Hawk Down was excellent... so much so, that I could only sit through it once... it was 'too real' for me. Full Metal Jacket is up there on my list.
I also liked Generation X a lot.... |

Generation Kill was a sick show.
Rome is cool also, but gotta watch it spread out. Tried marathoning it a lot, and it starts to get to you.
So as far as real war goes....
Saving Private Ryan, Full metal Jacket.
I also liked Miracle at St Anna a lot.
I dont even know where to go about some movies, there are lots of type of war....
Independence day count?
STARSHIP TROOPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (half joke) (still cool) |

While war is only a component of both, I love Jacob's Ladder and The Deer Hunter as well... _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

Apocalypse Now tried too hard to be artsy, though there were some very memorable scenes and excellent cinematography.
The opening of Saving Private Ryan.
For its lunacy, Dr. Strangelove.
For a poetic documentary, Ken Burn's The Civil War.
For its stark portrayal and accuracy, Das Boot.
For both the acting and ability to present a complex and troubling personality, Patton. |
