We turned in around the same time. I woke this morning to something I was skeptical about happeniing. PDTP launched Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:27 pm Lamar has overtaken the all time leader. LG crashed when news of his signing was announced. IMO he's going to be the same Lamar some on LG have become accustomed to hating next season. He'll come in out of shape be MIA on some nights. Display the nonchalant personality that will forge 200 page threads. SHOES will have his hands full, again, defending against the usual suspects with help from the usual supporters. I don't know how long MODS are going to allow this thread to exist. PDTP posters will eventually regain the lead because those who post there have become like family. Something will come up this summer to get the attention of LG to take the place of LO but it's going to have to be something spectacular. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

LO is back. We stormed past PDTP. Our team is loaded for another dynastic type of run. Shoes is getting down with THE GOODS. And 707 is some symbolic page counting. Damn it feels good to be a Laker. _________________ "After watching Bryant and Cooper go at it for about 10 minutes West stood up, nodded at two team public-relations men he'd brought with him, and snapped, 'That's it, let's get out of here, I've seen enough. I'm not sure that LO jockers can claim any kind of victory with the kind of contract that LO is reportedly signing. The hardcore LO fans were clamoring for Buss to break the bank and give LO a 5 year, $45-50M deal. It was clear from the start that the Lakers wanted LO on only a 3 year deal at $7-9M per year (preferrably $7M/yr). Most people thought that LO would settle for no less than a 4 year deal and wouldn't accept a 4th year team option.
In the end, the Lakers were victorious during these negotiations given the fact that they got LO to sign 4 year deal at around $8M/yr with a 4th year team option. The Lakers have the option of moving LO after 2 years if they deem it necessary to shed some salary to accommodate Pau's extension. I'm hoping LO stays a Laker for the next 4 years, but there's no question that his future with the Lakers isn't secure beyond the next 2 years.

I don't care who won or lost in terms of the contract. The real winners are Laker fans. Buss did waht it took to keep the team intact and Lamar also did what he said he would do. |

'Net reaction: Odom to remain with Lakers
Quote: | Kurt Helin, NBC Los Angeles: "[Jerry] Buss played the hand perfectly. He knew Odom wanted to be in Los Angeles, and he knew what Miami had offered and that he was offering more money per year (just fewer years). He knew in the end Odom was not going to leave millions of dollars a year on the table for the security of a couple more years in Miami. Odom said during the season that he loved life in Los Angeles and wanted to stay here, and that he was willing to offer a hometown discount. And despite the very public efforts to leverage the Lakers, he meant that — Odom turned down a more lucrative five year, $40 million offer from the Portland Trailblazers, and up-and-coming challenger to the Lakers."
Janis Carr, OCRegister: "Lamar Odom’s return to the Lakers doesn’t just give the team their most versatile player, but one of their most generous, kind-hearted, candy-eating and fun-loving players. [...] During the playoffs, I approached Lamar about donating to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. He didn’t hesitate and we agreed on $5-a-rebound during the Western Conference semifinals against Houston. By then end of the seven games, Odom owed $310. He shelled out $400 without blinking an eyelash and refused take back the overage. He said it was for a good cause. His mother, Cathy, died of colon cancer when he was young and he recently joined a bone marrow drive for a young leukemia patient in New York, filming a PSA to ask for people to be tested as a match. Throughout these negotiations, Odom has come off as greedy, just another money-grabbing professional athlete. Yet, he is as far from that image."
Ken Berger, CBS Sports: "Well, there is always Carlos Boozer(notes), who almost certainly will be dealt before the February trade deadline. Miami still has a $4 million trade exception it acquired in the Jermaine O'Neal(notes) trade. If not Boozer, Miami will have some cap flexibility next summer to surround Wade with the championship-level talent he so desperately desires. The problem is, if Wade doesn't sign an extension before then, he'll be fielding free agent offers, too."
Shoals, The Baseline: "Odom is quite a cult figure, and a source of endless intrigue. He's not just a role player, not even a glorified one like Shaq or Sheed wil be. Kobe and Pau weren't going anywhere. But two major stars does not a system make. The Lakers need Lamar Odom to be Lamar Odom, with all the good and bad that entails. Only then will they stay enough of themselves to take Artest and a steady Bynum as new assets, not a new direction that requires some getting used to. Which is a long way of saying, I'm glad that Odom decided to stay in LA. Teaming up with Artest will be great, memory lane-ish stuff. And it was clearly his first choice; who wouldn't want to return and play for another title? I just never expected Odom to be the guy that repeat hinged on."
