Quote: | HOUSTON – The guy who dared to ask for Shaquille O'Neal's No. 34 in the wake of a dynasty's demolition suddenly doesn't look totally out of line. |
Quote: | Cook wore No.34 at the University of Illinois, where he was the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2003, then settled for No.7 with O'Neal already wearing that on the Lakers. When O'Neal was traded and Lamar Odom wanted Cook's No.7, Cook wound up settling for No.43. |

If he plays every game like he did in Houston, I say give it to him. Forget Snaq. If you want to retire a number, start with 21. _________________ Defense is my business, and business is good! |

Come on folks, show some respect. Cook too.
Hate him all you want but Shaq deserves his place in the Lakers history.
Sure, he didn't take the break up well but he's done amazing things for us on the court. This shouldn't even be a question. _________________ Agent 62 |

Come on. Snaq, being what he is, still deserves to have #34 undisturbed. |

I agree, he does deserve a place in history. If he had just shut his mouth and gone to Miami, then yeah, Cook is out of line. However, all of this, "This is my team," saying "Pay me m-fer," to the owner of the team, in front of the press, and then badmouthing Kobe at every opportunity he has? Give me a break. You can't do great things for someone, then piss in their face and then expect all of the bad things to be instantly forgotten. As much as I don't like Snaq with his last couple season with the team, I think being a Laker despite of all, yeah he need some respect. What if in his final days decided to be back as Laker with huge pay cut, will you accept him eventhough it's impossible to happen? Since he loves the attention who know he might do it and retired as a Laker so his jersey will be haning in Staples.
Again I do not like Snaq despite of the three-peat. I love this current Laker Team being young and stupid but they have chemistry and were able to rise up as a team. I like Odom and Kobe in the last qtr when Kobe pass the ball to Lo and Lo give it back to Kobe and got the 24 seconds. They were just joking around in the court. TMAC was like man, I want to be purple and gold |

Or shut his mouth and gone to Indiana. Or the Clippers*. Or any of a number of places we could (maybe) have gotten a better deal instead of purposefully ruining any trade that could have brought back (almost) equal talent by scaring off the target team with talk of leaving.
* - In retrospect, the rumored trade involving Corey Maggette may have turned out less than great because of Corey's health, but it would be really nice to have Brand right about now. Cross-town rivalry aside, this was my favorite of the rumored possibilities. _________________ Nerd rock in progress.

I would pay big money to see the look on Shaq's face if Cookie started wearing #34. That would be PRICELESS. _________________ MistiLynn

Ef stay puff. Give Bian Crook #34 and retire it in his name just to spite the big baffoon. If I were the owner I'd do it with a smile on my face. Snaq has burned all his bridges and should get no place in Laker Lore. He's dead to me.

Cook is a home grown Laker, obtained in the draft. He's turning out to be a great pick for a player drafted in the late first round. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

Cook is'nt going to replace Shaq anytime soon as a Laker Hall of Famer, IMO that if he works hard and continues improving, he will be a great compliment player to Kobe. Give Him No. 34. Shaqs still playing, he will have his day one day. I won't regret having the Lakers place his Number up in the rafters.... someday, just not today. If Cook can play his way into being the #2 guy on this team, then give him the number. Reward Cook for being here, Shaqs gone and someday he will have his day again as a Laker. Just not today, today belongs to the guys wearing and earning that Purple and Gold. |

Im not really sure that #7 should have been easily relinquished...
I know that Jamison went to Wiz and took another #4 (Instead of #33).
Lamar is a bonifide starter, but isn't SUPERSTAR status...
Not that i dont want him to play well, but historically is hasnt been at the next level. He makes a great #3 option... _________________

What about if Snaq decided to return to Lakerland and ask for a minimum vet price so he and Kobe can start talking about BB and cars?

I think Shaq is on the first of a five year contract. He will turn 34 this season, so he would be very old, before he can sign with anyone as a free agent. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that.
