probably not from now on, economically its not feasible. airports need the duty free business, people like buying stuff while waiting around. it would also create an increased burden on the amount of baggage checked in. more than likely though, carry on luggage will be scrutinized even more heavily. trigger type devices that can be found in electronics (laptops, cameras, watches, ipods whatever) would be permitted. but one thing that is a huge questionmark are the products that could be used to conceal an explosive ingredient (ie. cosmetic bottles, water bottles, most cosmetic products). there are screening systems being produced, but theres no way that they could be distributed and used at every airport. i'd say for the next few weeks, international flights will have to go with the "plastic bag" carry on, flights btwn the us and uk will probably continue in such a manner for at least a month and past 9/11. _________________ mike breen with the call: "dwayne wade has the ball with nine seconds left... the refs for the WIN BANGGGGGGGGGGGGGG." |

No, you just have to check it, and hope they don't lose your bags... |

Considering the threat, it seems reasonable precautions are being taken. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

It probably is a safer time to fly than most. The airports are being watched very closely. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

Man it would suck absolute ass to travel air just about now. Imagine a twelve hour flight with no walkman/I-pod, no laptop/pda, no books, nothing except for the lame in-flight movie. Closest you can get to solitary confinement without experiencing the real thing. |

I have a flight in two weeks.
From DC to CA. Are the new rules/regulations (no carryons) going to apply to in-country traveling???
The thought of my precious laptop getting smashed around in the luggage bin scares me to death... |

I hope you all have safe flights. You may be a bit bored, but most important thing is getting there safely. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

I flew in from London yesterday. Security check at Heathrow took about 2 hours, I was expecting worse. The line was REALLY long, but they were pretty efficient, plus having no carry on baggage helped to speed things up. Security people manually checked the contents of all plastic bags; only wallets, travel documents and glasses (without a case) were allowed onboard, everything else was confiscated. People who had milk bottles had to drink some in front of the security to prove it was really milk and not some liquid explosives. Everyone was hand searched twice, before entering the gates and before boarding the plane. The worst thing was that upon landing at LAX all bags were delayed about 3 hours because they took them to another place for X-ray, so a lot of people missed their connecting flights. |

Are you serious?? A sealed $70.00 bottle of wine? Lipstick and mascara??Lucky for me, I flew last weekend.
Arnold posting 300 National Guard troops in the airports as " a show of military presence" is a farce. It's an election year...gotta start the fear-based campaigning already. _________________ "Kobe, Kobe, Kobe and some more Kobe, with a sprinkling of Kobe and a huge fat scoop of double Kobe with Kobe sprinkles and Kobe sauce"

Yea I know it seems unreasonable but unfortunately we know all too well how creative these terrorists can be with their plots, its best to be safe. _________________ Fight On! |

It's not really terrorists "again". They are always around and continually looking for ways to strike. Curiously, we only hear about them every 2 years, before an election.
But they're always there. In fact, they pose more of a threat when we don't hear about them then at times like this when everyone is on alert.
Once the election has passed, and the fear of terrorists has served its purpose, we won't hear much about them again for another 2 years or so. _________________ I would rather have questions I cannot answer than answers I cannot question - Richard Feynman |

One plane lost is worse than losing all the bottles of wine in all the airports. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |
