Angels have reached an agreement with Gary Matthews Jr. on a $50 million, five-year contract. He's a .300 hitter with some power.

haven't really seen him play.
Is he worth THAT MUCH??????????

I like this deal. I don't know if he's worth 50 million... but still way better than paying Alfonso Soriano.
I mean, 8 years for like 136 million is beyond ridiculous for him.
So yeah. Good move by the Angels, I'm excited.

50 million for a guy that has had one good season.
I doubt he will still be starting at the end of his contact, he is already 31 years old. |

What a terrible deal, 50 million for an average centerfielder?
And he is going to lead off?
Seriously aside from last year, his numbers have been horrible. And last year, everything but his batting average was pretty bad (as far as strkeout rates, OPS, etc).
50 million?
He should have gotten 20-30 million over 3-4 years |

I think I played football, with this guy's father, Chukie Mathews... I remember the constant... "Wait, you'll see, someday... There will be a superstar, baseball player, by the name of Mathews..."... 
I don't know , why I keep remembering that, every time I come across Gary Mathew's name...
Anyway, if my fantasy baseball experience counts... Gary Mathews is a very underrated outfielder... Seems to be consistent, and can go off, at times, and be clutch... He has some "pop".
