A best guitarist thread was started. Id figure I do a favorite solos thread. Id like to see what everyone's favorite rock solos of all time are. Here are mine

in no particular order:

Sweet Child O Mine- GNR
Home Sweet Home- Motley Crue
Night Train-GNR
Little Red Corvette- Prince (preformed by Dez Dickerson)
Time-Pink Floyd
Something- The Beatles
And I love her- The Beatles
Unforgiven- Metallica

im sure I have more but these are some I can think of off the top of my head.

I like "Spanish Fly" by Eddie Van Halen. I don't know if you can call it a solo like the others listed above, because it is a song onto itself, rather than a solo in the middle of a song.

Some of my favorites:

-- A lot of Randy Rhoads' work, but especially "Mr Crowley" and "S.A.T.O."

-- A lot of David Gilmour's work. I could probably name a dozen songs.

-- Unknown guitarist, "Wavelength" by Van Morrison.

-- This one's really obscure, unknown guitarist, "The Way Back Home" by Kevin Gilbert.

-- Mark Knopfler, "Tunnel of Love" and "Sultans of Swing," especially the live versions on the "Alchemy" album.

-- Jimmy Page on "Since I've Been Loving You," "Achilles Last Stand" and probably a few others.

-- Nils Lofgren on "Youngstown" in Springsteen's "Live in New York City."

-- A few Steely Dan leads, but I'm not sure which were Walter Becker, Larry Carlton, Jeff Baxter, or someone else. "Reelin' in the Years," "Kid Charlemane," a few others.

-- Russ Freeman, "Earthbound" by the Rippingtons.

-- Jeff Beck on "What God Wants, Part III" by Roger Waters.

-- I believe it's Robert Fripp, "Here Comes the Flood" by Peter Gabriel.

Comfortably Numb - David Gilmour (the solo on the title track of his latest CD is killer, as well)

Hotel California - Don Felder (underrated guitarist, IMO)

Rock Bottom (live version) - UFO/Michael Schenker

YES!

My favorite is probably from Revelation (Mother Earth).

Anything off of Diver Down, VH's 4th album. Or... basically anything off any VH album... but Diver Down especially.

Here you guys go...

Terry Kath... this guy kicked ass. Died way before his time. Not really a solo here, but I just love the licks he lays down through the whole song.

Chicago Transit Authority - I am a Man (note: for those that don't know... this is "Chicago" before they sucked)

Van Halen - "Push Comes To Shove"

Pretty much anything off of Fair Warning.

Oops... that's what I meant. Fair Warning... not Diver Down.

Been a long ass week at work (37 hours in the last 3 days) and I'm burnt out.

Some of these might not be technically amazing, but I like how they are used in the context of the song:

Radiohead - Paranoid Android (Jonny Greenwood)
Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You (Jimmy Page)
Prince - Computer Blue (Prince)

Thats not a bass solo, it's just the main riff. There is no real bass solo in that whole song. However, that song is awesome though.

If you want to hear awesome bass solos go listen to Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Flea, Mike Watt, Jaco Pastorius...

I don't know if it counts: "Stranger on the Shore", by the Ventures.
