I don't think Blake is a long term solution either but I get why they made this move. |
When Foles is in a Reid/Chip system, he can produce. He at least has some accuracy to his throws. Even if he does make poor decisions from time to time, it's a helluva lot better than Flake Bortles who makes poor decisions repeatedly with his scattershot arm. That D isn't going to last very long. They've got a window where someone like Cousins could step in and they take the next step. I would take Case Keenum, Sam Bradford, Josh McNown, Matt Moore, and AJ McCarron over Bortles. It's all about systems and you gotta believe putting even an average QB in that Jags system would yield greater benefits than what over-coddled Bortles has done with. |
Chip was the one who traded him though and Foles was nearing retirement until he was brought back to Philly. Most people didn't take Foles seriously at all after Wentz got hurt because of how he bounced around etc. Now he won an SB and people act as if they always believed in him is just a bit laughable to me.
Now do I think Bortles will end up an SB MVP? No but I really am not sure who's out there that's better.
Keenum/Bradford will probably be with the Vikings. Not sure of McCown or Matt Moore would be available.
I'm surprised about McCarron not being in the Jags radar I'll give you that. Unless his wife doesn't want to move to Jacksonville which seems laughable given how they're from the South. |

Chip didn't want Foles but it showed Foles could do well if the system was set up for him. I never thought Foles would turn in an elite performance but I knew he'd be at least respectable enough that teams couldn't stack the box. I can never feel that way about Bortles. The Jags tailored their system for Bortles and the best he can do is checkdowns and hitting WR's a 10 year old could see was open. They've got weapons on that team with some dynamic WR's and a potent run game with a decent OL. Put in an average backup QB and he'll put up numbers better than Flake.
I can list 50 QB's better and a good number are FA's. McCown is a UFA. Easily had for 1-2 years. Matt Moore is a UFA. Likewise easily had for 1-2 year deal and possibly more affordable. Case Keenum is a UFA. Also easily had, though probably for a longer deal. Sam Bradford is an ideal fit for that offense even though he is injury prone. One of those two can't be in a Vikes uni. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Sadly, I would probably prefer Bortles to Bradford if I were the Jags. You just cannot count on Sam Bradford to stay healthy, and if you have him, you essentially need two QB's. |

The Bills are signing veteran cornerback Vontae Davis to a one-year deal, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports.
Davis tweeted confirmation, writing “#BillsMafia.”
Davis, 29, visited five teams, selecting Buffalo over Cleveland, San Francisco, Oakland and Miami. The Colts cut Davis in November.
He made 17 tackles in four games in 2017.
The Dolphins made Davis a first-round pick in 2009. Miami traded him to Indianapolis in 2012. |

If they are lucky, he'll play OK for a few games before getting hurt again. |

Turns 28 soon, but yeah, I think this was about saving money for the Rams, at a position where they feel a competent player can produce, due to the attention that Aaron Donald draws. He also did miss 8 games in '15 and 7 games in '16, so perhaps they had some concerns about him physically.
This is the second time recently that the Dolphins have looked to the Rams for defensive line reinforcements, as they also traded for former Rams DL William Hayes before last season. Hayes, I believe, was playing well for the Dolphins before going on IR. |

Scheme changes probably also did it. Quinn'll be going back to a 4-3 instead of a 3-4. Hayes did fine though he's primarily a run stopping DE. With Wake and Suh, my Phins needed someone on the other side to take advantage of the double teams. Hopefully he fits the bill. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Quote: | Linebacker Ryan Shazier will not play next season as he recovers from a spinal injury, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said Wednesday at the scouting combine in Indianapolis.
"Ryan Shazier won't play in 2018," Colbert said. "He knows that, and we know that. We're going to continue to support him in his recovery."
Shazier -- who suffered a severe spine injury in December -- will remain a valuable part of the team and will be placed on an exemption list. |

I'm not sure if the Bears would really trade Howard (I know something came out that speculated that Nagy isn't sure if Howard is a great fit for his offense because he likes his RB to catch passes), but if they did, this trade feels in the ballpark to me. Based on the smoke coming out of Miami, it seems like they don't want to commit to Drake as a 300+ touch feature back. But I feel like Gase traded Ajayi in part because they didn't like him as a pass-catcher. So now they are going to get a feature back who isn't a pass-catcher? They could very well think he's better than Ajayi, but the concept is the same...dude isn't an adept pass-catcher. |

Ajayi was sent out because he was a locker room cancer, a me-first diva on the field, and an average back. He does well in volume but then when you look at it, Drake has nearly 200 more yards on 5 less carries. And he didn't even have the services of a decent right tackle in Ja'Wuan James. Howard is absolutely better than Ajayi but I agree, he's not much of a receiver. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Shaquem Griffin does 20 reps with prosthetic arm/hand
Quote: | Griffin, who according to the NFL is attempting to become the first player with one hand to be drafted into the league in the modern era, got a roar from the fans in the bleachers when he put up 20 repetitions of 225 pounds in the bench press. The reaction was, by far, the loudest any player has received to this point in the open-to-the-public portion of the testing. |

this guy is amazing.....
Shaquem Griffin runs fastest LB 40 in over a decade
Quote: | Central Florida linebacker Shaquem Griffin ran a time of 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash Sunday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, the fastest time for a linebacker in more than a decade. |

I wouldn't have issue with his disability/deformity or whatever you want to call it. Dude makes plays on film, and is obviously strong enough and fast enough. I guess my only question would be, is he big enough to play LB in the NFL? He's, what, 227? If the answer to that question is yes, then I wouldn't hesitate to draft him. And I guess it's possible that he could put on another 10 lbs. in the NFL. Or maybe he doesn't even need to. I just bring this up because it seems like most small LB's still weigh about 240-245. Even Dat Nguyen was listed at 238. |

for me personally....I just hope he gets a real chance to earn a roster spot...I think it is hard to doubt the guy at this point. |

I could see the Browns taking him at #1 overall, if they think he can be an identity for their offense kind of like how the Cowboys viewed Zeke and how the Jags viewed Fournette. Remember, the Browns have a pretty good offensive line. And then they can still take a QB at 4 if they want to. I don't think Barkley will be there at 4.
I also think a trade is a distinct possibility out of #1 for the Browns, to a team desperate for a QB that doesn't want to lose out on a chance at one. |

I don't doubt it. But the imagery of an assistant coach punching himself in the nuts needs to be recorded for posterity. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

I can see the Browns eventually taking him #1 and a QB @ #4. Barkley looks damn close to a sure thing. |
