Picture this... Thursday morning, I get up and get ready to go to school. I go downstairs from my apartment, go down to my car, unlock the door and notice something slightly odd... MY STEERING WHEEL WAS ON THE FLOOR. That night, someone had broken into my car DRILLED a hole into the ignition(I guess in an attempt to steal the car) and then decided to break my steering wheel clean off. Insurance won't cover it, damages are at least $1000+ and now I'm stuck without a car. I can't understand why someone would do this... They didn't steal anything either, they just decided to eff with me and bring this burden on my shoulders. The next morning would be street cleaning day, and I ended up getting a parking ticket on top of that(which I will fight.)
But I need some advice, do I get the car fixed, or scrap it and save up for the next year so I can get another car. The car is a '97 Mitsubishi Mirage 2D(I know a modest car, but it got me around.) I'm leaning towards just scrapping it altogether and just being carless for the next year or so.
The biggest thing that bothers me is that some (bleep) sleeps at night, knowing what he did to me, and probably doesn't even care. |

Will your insurance pay for anything else? How did the person get into the car? Did they break something to get in, or did you leave the door unlocked? Is this why insurance won't pay for it?
One solution, like in the movie "Stripes":
"Hey, you can't park here!"
"We're not parking, we're abandoning it!"
That really sucks, though. It's amazing what people will do without giving a (bleep) about others. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Thanks guys, the insurance is a bit iffy, but in general this came at a bad time. Right in the middle of holiday season, when work needs me the most, and I have to focus on finals. Around this time last year people broke in and robbed my car clean, but at least last year i was able to still drive the damn thing. At this point I don't know what gonna happen, but I guess i'll have to deal with it. |

Will your insurance company pay for a rental for a while? What's the point of insurance if they don't cover things that happen to your car? I don't get it. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Isn't that a Chris Rock routine? If you need to hide something valuable, hide it in books, cause n(bleep)s hate books. Books are like kryptonite to a n(bleep).
EDIT: lest anyone think I am trying to throw out derogatory terms freely, be aware that this is taken almost verbatim from Rock's stand up routine. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

I think criminals don't like books.
But it's more because I can't carry my damn textbooks that I'm using for the quarter around since they tend to be thick. |

why wouldnt your insurance pay cover it? Do you have full coverage?
Are the 1000 quotes from dealers? If so, you can get it done for WAY LESS.
Personally, Id fix the car. If its in good running conditions, keep it. |

Horrible feeling. I remember back in my community college days, I had just taken a final and was feeling good about it and as I happily walked to my truck I noticed my window was "rolled down". I was like "what the hell, did I leave my window down?!" As I got closer I saw that my window was shattered and my stereo was gone... and about a thousand dollars worth of other stereo equipment. They tried to steal the truck, as the steering column was completely ripped apart and there was nowhere for me to even put my key into. I never drove the thing again. It was on its last legs as it was and it wasnt worth it at the time to fix it.
But take into consideration YOUR vehicle and what it's worth and what it will cost you to fix it. It burns me to this day knowing that some ball-less people are out there with MY stuff that I worked hard for. It woulda been worth it to miss my final so i could catch them in the act and beat them senseless.... Ehh.... Keep your head up, dude...you'll be OK. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |
