Things to consider:
Keep KL and risk season long problems in your lockeroom, massive Spurs fan revolts against KL, and probably a sabotaged season. And then he walks anyway and you get nothing.
Trade him to the East and get virtually nothing because everyone knows he won't sign an extension because he wants to come to LA.
Trade him to the Lakers and get some good assets, but create a super-team in your conference.
Stall out the Lakers and watch your leverage erode.
I hold onto him and try and repair the relationship. If it isn't looking good by the trade deadline, I look at the options on the table between:
Phily
Boston
LA
I take the best deal available regardless of location and try and pit those teams against each other. One of those teams may be underperforming by the trade deadline and may become desperate to shake it up. Also, injury concerns regarding Kawhi may be assuaged by his play once the season starts upping his value (by all accounts, he seems to be healthy).
Now, if I was the Lakers.....I wait and don't give up BI either in a panic move. We have LBJ for 3 + 1. This coming year is a building year with all eyes on 2019. If Kawhi decides to pull a PG13, then so be it. I didn't want him anyway _________________ "I don’t give a [expletive] what you say. Get BI and turn him into Kawhi 2.0. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Trade KL for Deng.
Close up shop.
Retire.
Show up as guest of honor at Lakers parade in June.

In all seriousness, either take what the Lakers are offering or risk getting nothing next year.

Try to repair the damage if I could, I'd even consider not bringing back Parker or Ginobli, who seem to be the players that irked KL. If KL just does his job, and keeps quiet like he usually does, the decision is either to let him play out the year or trade him before the deadline. Now if you want to make him happy, and send the message to your players that you want to keep them happy, then trade him to a team in LA. If you won't give him to LA, then trade him back East, knowing you will not get much, if he wants to play in LA next season. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!
Have one more heart to heart with Leonard. Using the best combo of coaches/players I have to try to get him to change his mind.
If that doesn't work, do my best to get an Eastern team to beat the Covington/Saric/MIA 1st deal. (hopefully still available)
Make that trade and move on with the players that want to be there. Covington and Saric are not bad additions to that team.
The Miami '21 pick could yield a better player than Ingram. Covington and Saric can help a team win now and fit what the Spurs like to do. That would be a huge win if Kawhi balks after a final sit down. _________________ Under New Management
